1) What pipe sizes can Oatey 31020 medium body PVC cement handle?
Oatey 31020 clear medium body PVC cement works on all schedules and classes of PVC pipe and fittings up to 6 inch diameter with interference fit. Above that diameter you need a heavy body cement instead.
2) Can Oatey 31020 PVC cement be used on potable water lines?
Yes. The 31020 clear cement complies with NSF/ANSI 61 health effects requirements and is listed for DWV, pressure pipe, potable water and electrical conduit applications. It also meets ASTM D2564 for PVC solvent cement.
3) Can I use this clear PVC cement on CPVC or ABS pipe?
No. Oatey 31020 is formulated for PVC pipe and fittings only. CPVC needs a CPVC-specific cement, ABS needs ABS cement, and a PVC-to-ABS transition needs a transition cement.
4) What temperature can you apply Oatey 31020 PVC cement in?
Recommended application range is 40 F to 110 F (4 C to 43 C). Below 40 F the solvent weld is outside the recommended window, so on cold-weather work schedule the joints for the warmer part of the day or use a cement rated for low temperature.
5) Will Oatey medium body clear cement fill a sloppy fitting gap?
Medium body is the right pick for ordinary interference-fit joints and has gap filling properties for minor slack between pipe and socket. It is not a substitute for a correctly sized fitting, and for large diameter or loose-fit work above 6 inch a heavy body cement is the correct product.
6) Is Oatey 31020 low VOC for California jobs?
