1) What pipe sizes can Oatey 31015 PVC clear cement handle?
Oatey 31015 regular body clear cement works on all schedules and classes of PVC pipe and fittings up to 4 inch for Schedule 40, and up to 2 inch for Schedule 80 with an interference fit. Above those sizes you want a medium or heavy body cement instead, because regular body doesn't carry enough filler to bridge the gap on larger joints.
2) Can I use Oatey 31015 clear cement on a potable water line?
Yes. The 31015 clear cement complies with NSF/ANSI 61 health effects requirements and is listed for DWV, pressure pipe, potable water and electrical applications. It also meets ASTM D2564, the standard spec for PVC solvent cement.
3) How cold can it be outside when I glue PVC with this cement?
The recommended application window is 40 to 110 degrees F (4 to 43 degrees C). Below 40 F the solvent flashes off too slowly and cure times stretch out, so for winter work outside that range you want a cold weather formulated cement rather than this one.
4) Can I use this clear cement on CPVC or ABS pipe?
No. The 31015 is formulated for PVC only. ABS drain pipe needs an ABS cement, CPVC hot water lines need a CPVC cement, and a PVC-to-ABS transition needs a transition cement. Using PVC cement on the wrong resin gives you a joint that will not hold.
5) Do I need primer with Oatey 31015, or is the cement enough on its own?
The 31015 is a solvent cement, not a primer, and it does not replace one. Where code or the job spec calls for primer on PVC, prime first and then apply the cement. The container includes a dauber for application.
6) Will this Oatey cement pass a low-VOC jurisdiction like California?
