1) What roof pitch can the Oatey 12958 aluminum flashing be used on?
The stamped aluminum base covers pitch from 0 to 40 degrees, which is up to a 10/12 roof. Because the base is soft aluminum, it shapes to the deck and the shingle courses without cracking. Steeper than 10/12 and you are outside the rated range.
2) Can this No-Calk flashing be used on a flat built-up or hot-mopped roof?
No. The 12958 is not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. For those assemblies you want a flashing meant to be set in hot asphalt or membrane, not a shingle-style stamped base.
3) Is the Oatey 12958 flashing OK for a B-vent or a hot flue?
It is rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat and approved for Type B installations, so it works over a Type B gas vent as well as over plumbing vent stacks. It is not for single-wall flue pipe running hotter than that rating.
4) Can I paint the collar on an Oatey No-Calk flashing to match the roof?
Don't. Do not use petroleum based products or paint on the flashing collar. The collar is formulated so it will not fade, and paint or petroleum products attack the rubber and shorten the life of the seal. Paint the metal base if you must, keep it off the collar.
5) Will the aluminum base on this flashing rust or corrode on a roof?
The base is rustproof stamped aluminum and ships unfinished, so it weathers rather than rusting. Note that aluminum in contact with copper or with runoff off a copper roof can corrode galvanically, which is a general metals issue rather than a defect in the part.
