The Oatey 12955 All-Flash No-Calk flashing covers 3 inch to 4 inch vent pipe. The self-sealing collar slides down over the pipe and seals against it, so no caulking is needed at the penetration.
2) What roof pitch can this Oatey aluminum vent flashing be used on?
The metal base handles pitches from 0 to 40 degrees, which is anything up to a 10/12 roof. Steeper than that and you need a flashing rated for a higher pitch.
3) Can I use the Oatey 12955 flashing on a flat built-up or hot-mopped roof?
No. The 12955 is not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. It is a shingle/composition-style flashing with a stamped aluminum base; for a hot-mopped or BUR assembly you need a flashing made for that system.
4) How big is the base on the Oatey 12955 vent pipe flashing?
The base measures 12 x 15 inches. That is the footprint you need to tuck under the course above the penetration, so plan your shingle layout around a 12 by 15 inch plate. The whole piece weighs about 0.55 lb.
5) Will this flashing hold up on a hot vent stack?
It is rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat and approved for Type B installations. That covers typical plumbing vents and Type B gas vent runs within that temperature limit.
6) Do I need caulk or sealant to install the Oatey No-Calk 3-4 inch flashing?
No sealant is required at the pipe. The collar is self-sealing and slides over the stack, which is the point of the No-Calk design. The aluminum base is soft enough to shape to the roof deck and shingle contour as you set it.
7) Is the brown finish on the Oatey 12955 going to fade or rust out?
The base is powder coated brown over stamped aluminum, so it will not rust, and Oatey states the collar will not fade. Keep petroleum based products and paint off the collar, since those degrade the seal.
