OATEY 74144 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the Oatey 74144 commercial cleanout connect to?
The Oatey 74144 is a 4 inch PVC cleanout, so it mates to 4 inch PVC DWV pipe. The body is PVC, which means a solvent weld connection to the 4 inch line rather than a threaded or gasketed joint.
2) Is the Oatey 74144 cleanout height adjustable after the slab is poured?
It is an adjustable commercial cleanout, so the top assembly can be set to finished floor height during installation rather than being fixed at the pipe elevation. That is what makes it usable where the slab or topping thickness is not exactly known when the rough-in goes in.
3) Does the Oatey 74144 come complete, or do I order the cover separately?
It ships as one assembly. The 4 inch PVC adjustable cleanout body, the 6 inch bronze cover and the square ring are all included under part number 74144, so there is no separate top or ring to add to the order. There is a single model on this item, so no finish or size option to specify.
4) What size and material is the cover on the Oatey 74144?
The 74144 comes with a 6 inch nickel bronze cover and a square ring. The 6 inch round cover sets inside the square ring, which is what gets grouted or set flush into the finished floor.
5) Will a 4 inch PVC cleanout with a nickel bronze top hold up in a commercial floor?
That is what the 74144 is built for. The PVC body handles the drainage side while the metal cover carries the traffic in a finished commercial floor, which is why the bronze cover and square ring are specified instead of a plastic plug. For a tile or terrazzo floor the square ring gives you a clean edge to finish against.
6) How heavy is the Oatey 74144 cleanout assembly?
The complete 74144 assembly weighs 5.3 pounds. Most of that is the nickel bronze cover and square ring, not the PVC body, which is worth knowing if you are setting a run of these and staging material by hand.
