OATEY 74176 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the adjustable part of this Oatey cleanout do on a slab pour?
The housing adjusts in height, so the cover can be brought flush with the finished floor after the slab or topping is poured rather than having to set the riser at exactly the right elevation beforehand. That's the reason this style gets specified on commercial concrete floors instead of a fixed ferrule and plug.
2) Is the cover on the Oatey 74176 metal or plastic?
The body is PVC and the 6 inch cover is nickel, with a square ring. That combination is the usual pick for a finished floor in a commercial space where the cover is going to see foot traffic and needs to look like part of the floor, while the buried portion stays non-metallic and solvent welds to PVC pipe.
3) What is the square ring for, and does it change how the cleanout is set in the floor?
The square ring frames the round cover and gives the cover a square opening to seat into, which is what you want when the cleanout lands in a tiled or patterned floor where a square cut is easier to lay out than a round one. Round-ring versions of the same cleanout exist for poured or sheet-goods floors.
4) What part number do I order for the 6 inch Oatey PVC adjustable cleanout with nickel cover?
Order Oatey 74176. That's the manufacturer part number for the 6 inch PVC adjustable commercial cleanout with the 6 inch nickel cover and square ring, and it's the single configuration this model covers, so there's no finish or ring option to specify on the order.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 74176 cleanout for shipping and handling on site?
Listed weight is 5.8 lb, with a shipping volume of 0.729. One person handles it easily; the weight is mostly in the nickel cover and ring rather than the PVC housing.
