OATEY 72176 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 72176 commercial floor drain connect to PVC pipe?
Yes. The Oatey 72176 is a 6 inch PVC bodied drain with a PVC connection, so it solvent-welds to PVC DWV pipe. If your rough-in is cast iron or ABS, this is not a direct connection and you would need a different drain body or a transition coupling.
2) Is the grate on the Oatey 72176 drain adjustable for finished floor height?
It is an adjustable commercial drain, so the 6 inch grate assembly can be set to the finished floor level after the slab or tile is poured. That is the whole point of the adjustable design: rough in the PVC body first, then bring the grate up flush.
3) Does the Oatey 72176 include the clamping ring for a membrane floor?
Yes, a square ring is included with the 72176 along with the 6 inch nickel grate, so you get the drain body, grate and ring in one part number.
4) What is the grate on the Oatey 72176 made of and will it hold up in a commercial space?
The 72176 ships with a 6 inch nickel finish grate. Nickel bronze style grates are the usual choice for commercial floors where the grate is walked on and visible, rather than a plastic strainer.
5) How much does the Oatey 72176 6 inch drain weigh for shipping and handling?
The 72176 assembly weighs 5.3 pounds, light enough to be a one-hand carry on a ladder or into a crawl space.
