OATEY 72156 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe does the Oatey 72156 commercial floor drain connect to?
The 72156 has a PVC connection, so it solvent welds to PVC drain pipe. It's a 6 inch PVC body drain, so plan the rough-in around 6 inch PVC. If your waste line is cast iron or ABS, you'd need a transition fitting or a different drain body material.
2) Can the Oatey 72156 floor drain be adjusted after the slab is poured?
It's an adjustable commercial drain, so the strainer assembly can be set to final floor height rather than being fixed at the body. That's what you want when the drain body goes in before the pour and the finished floor thickness (tile, topping slab, membrane) isn't settled yet. Set the body on the rough line, then bring the 6 inch nickel grate up flush with the finished surface.
3) Is the grate on the Oatey 72156 drain metal or plastic?
The grate is nickel finished, 6 inches across, over a PVC drain body. That's the usual pairing for commercial floor drains: a plastic body that won't corrode in the waste line, with a metal strainer that takes foot traffic and cart wheels at floor level.
4) What is the manufacturer part number for the 6 inch Oatey PVC commercial drain with nickel grate?
Order it as Oatey 72156. That number covers the complete assembly, PVC drain body plus the 6 inch nickel grate, so you're not sourcing the strainer separately.
