OATEY 74126 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Oatey 74126 cleanout adjustable for floor height?
Yes. It is an adjustable commercial cleanout, so the housing can be raised or lowered to bring the brass cover flush with the finished floor or slab pour. That is what makes it usable when the exact pour depth isn't settled at rough-in.
2) What is the Oatey 74126 cleanout body made of, and what does it connect to?
The body is PVC, so it solvent welds to PVC DWV piping. The cover is brass. If your system is cast iron or ABS, the PVC body is not the right match for a solvent joint.
3) Why a brass cover instead of plastic on a commercial floor cleanout?
The 6 inch brass cover on the Oatey 74126 is meant for a floor that gets traffic and gets opened for rodding. Brass takes a wrench repeatedly without the plug thread chewing out, and it gives a finished metal face at the floor line. Plastic covers are generally kept to light duty residential work.
4) How heavy is the Oatey 74126 cleanout assembly?
It is listed at 5.8 pounds, most of that in the 6 inch brass cover. Light enough for one person to set, but worth knowing if you are pulling a count of them for a multi-floor rough-in.
