OATEY 72339 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does hub fit mean on this Oatey drain, and how is it different from a no-hub or threaded drain?
Hub fit means the drain body is sized to slip into the hub (bell) end of 4 inch PVC pipe and be solvent cemented. It is not a threaded drain and it is not a no-hub body that takes a shielded coupling. If your stub-up is a plain spigot end with no hub, or you are tying into cast iron, this is the wrong connection style for that rough-in.
2) How big is the grate on the Oatey 72339 drain?
It comes with a 6 inch round cast nickel bronze grate and round top. Plan your tile or slab cut for a 6 inch round opening, not the 4 inch pipe size.
3) Is the grate on the 72339 metal or plastic?
The grate is cast nickel bronze on a PVC drain body. That combination gives you a metal walking surface over a plastic body, which is what most general purpose floor drain installs in utility rooms, mechanical rooms and basements use.
4) What part number should I order for the Oatey 4 inch PVC drain with the 6 inch nickel bronze grate?
Order Oatey 72339. That single model number covers the complete assembly: the 4 inch PVC general purpose hub fit body with the 6 inch cast nickel bronze round grate and top.
5) How much does the Oatey 72339 floor drain weigh?
2.66 pounds as supplied, body and grate together. Light enough to set by hand, and the weight is mostly in the cast grate rather than the PVC body.
