1) What adhesive and corners should I use with Oatey PVC shower pan liner?
Oatey recommends its X-15 Bonding Adhesive and Oatey Dam Corners with this PVC liner. The corners are preformed so you are not trying to fold and seal a watertight inside corner by hand, and the X-15 is the solvent bond the PVC is rated for. Neither is included with the roll, so order them separately when you buy the liner.
2) Is 30 mil PVC liner thick enough for a tile shower under code?
30 mil is the standard membrane thickness for a concealed tile shower pan, and the Oatey 41599 liner meets ASTM D4551 and is IAPMO Listed, which is what most inspectors want to see on a shower receptor membrane. That listing is usually the deciding point for institutional and multi-family jobs where the submittal has to be approved before the mud bed goes in.
3) Can this blue PVC liner be left exposed or tiled directly over?
No. This is a concealed waterproofing membrane, meant to sit under a mortar bed with the tile set on top of it. It is not a surface-applied or bonded waterproofing you tile straight onto, and it is not intended to stay visible. If you need a bonded sheet membrane that tile adheres to directly, this is the wrong product type.
4) Does the Oatey shower pan liner have measuring marks for cutting?
The liner is printed in 6 inch increments across the material, so you can measure and trim it square on the floor without pulling a tape across a flexible sheet. That matters when you are cutting the piece oversized to run up the curb and walls and want the turn-ups even on all four sides.
5) Is Oatey 41599 the same material as a CPE shower liner?
No. The 41599 is PVC, not CPE. That distinction matters because the two use different bonding adhesives and PVC should not be used where it will contact hot-mopped asphalt or certain solvents. If your spec calls for CPE specifically, this roll does not substitute.
6) Will PVC shower pan liner crack if it is installed in cold weather?
The Oatey 41599 liner is flexible PVC with cold weather characteristics called out in its specs, so it still folds into corners and over a curb in an unheated building rather than going stiff and splitting. That is the practical difference on winter rough-in work in new construction that is not yet conditioned.
