OATEY 14052 Closed– 4-in. Master Flash® 8-in. x 8-in. base

The 14052 is the closed 4-inch Master Flash, meaning the EPDM collar seals over a 4-inch pipe. The collar has a multi-size sealing range, so it stretches over a band of pipe diameters around that 4-inch nominal size rather than one exact OD. It is a closed boot, so the collar is not pre-cut at the top; you slide the whole flashing down over the open end of the pipe.

The 14052 handles roof pitch up to 45 degrees. The base is a flexible 8 x 8 inch plate that molds to the roof surface, so on a sloped deck it conforms rather than sitting proud. Above 45 degrees you need a flashing made for steeper pitch.

The base molds to metal, plastic and similar surfaces, so it works on standing seam and corrugated metal panels as well as other roof materials. On a ribbed metal panel the flexible base conforms over the ribs. Bed it in silicone sealant and fasten it down with sheet metal screws.

The 14052 is rated for 212 degrees F continuous heat and is approved for Type B installations, so it can be used on Type B gas vent penetrations. The 212 degree figure is the ceiling for continuous exposure, so it is not a substitute for a flashing on a single wall hot flue.

The flashing itself is the boot and base only. You supply silicone sealant to bed the base against the roof surface and sheet metal screws to fasten it through the base perimeter. Neither is included with the part.

Use the closed collar when you can get to the open end of the pipe and slide the flashing down over it, which is the normal case on a new vent or when the pipe is short. If the pipe is capped, tied into equipment, or already terminated so nothing can pass over it, a closed boot like the 14052 will not go on and you need an open or split-collar flashing instead.

The collar is EPDM and is specified as non-fading, which is why it holds up on exposed roof penetrations where a standard rubber boot would harden and crack. The part is black throughout.
