OATEY 38975 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How does the Oatey 38975 faceplate mount to the wall?
It uses nailplate support brackets, so the frame anchors to the stud or framing behind the wall rather than relying on drywall anchors. That makes it a panel you set during rough-in or when you can get at framing at the opening.
2) Can I use the Oatey 38975 to get at a tub or shower valve behind the wall?
Yes. That is the common use for a 5 by 5 inch access panel: a service opening at a tub waste and overflow, a shower valve body, or a shutoff. The 5 inch clear interior is what you get to reach through, so measure your valve body and stub-outs against that before cutting.
3) Can the Oatey 38975 access plate be painted to match the wall?
It ships white on 20 gauge steel, so it blends with most painted drywall as-is and takes a coat of wall paint if you want an exact match. Scuff and prime the steel first the way you would any factory-finished metal.
