Model 38535 is the copper/CPVC version of the Quadtro, meaning the valve inlets are sized to solder to copper or solvent-weld to CPVC supply. If your rough-in is PEX, you want a PEX-configured Quadtro instead, not this one.
2) Will the Oatey Quadtro outlet box work in a wall with 5/8 in. or double-layer drywall?
Yes. The snap-on faceplate frame on the Quadtro accommodates drywall up to 1 in. thick, so 1/2 in., 5/8 in., and two layers of 1/2 in. (common in multi-family demising and corridor walls) all sit within range.
3) Can the valves on the Oatey 38535 be mounted at the top of the box instead of the bottom?
Both. The Quadtro is built for top or bottom valve mount, so you can orient it to whichever way your supply lines come into the bay. That matters on a stacked laundry closet or a retrofit where the copper is already dropped from above.
