OATEY 38537 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Oatey Quadtro outlet box work in a wall with thick drywall or double layers?
The snap-on faceplate frame accommodates up to 1 inch of drywall, so a single 1/2 inch layer or a doubled 1/2 inch wall both work. The box itself measures 8-3/4 in. W x 7-1/2 in. H x 3-5/8 in. D, so it fits inside a standard 2x4 stud bay depth.
2) How much wall opening does the 38537 Quadtro faceplate cover?
The faceplate measures 11-3/4 in. W x 10-1/8 in. H, while the box behind it is 8-3/4 x 7-1/2 inches. That gives you roughly an inch and a half of overlap on each side, so a rough cut that is slightly oversize still gets covered without patching.
3) Can the valves on the Oatey Quadtro be mounted at the top of the box instead of the bottom?
Yes, the Quadtro supports top or bottom valve mount, so you can run supplies down from above or up from the floor without changing boxes. That matters in a laundry closet where the stub-outs are already in place.
4) Is the Oatey Quadtro a single-handle shutoff or two separate valves?
Single lever. One handle shuts both hot and cold at once, which is what you want in rental and multi-family units where tenants are told to close the water after each load. The lever version is model 38537.
5) Does the 38537 come with water hammer arrestors?
The Quadtro line offers valves in no hammer and hammer options. If you are standardizing a building and want hammer arrestor valves, specify that version of the Quadtro rather than assuming any single model number covers it.
6) What is the Oatey Quadtro box itself made of, and will it hold up in a laundry wall?
The housing is high impact polystyrene, not a thin vacuum-formed shell, and the assembled unit weighs 3.25 pounds. It is a recessed box designed to sit in the stud bay behind the washer with the faceplate finishing the wall.
