OATEY 42163 Rubber Caulking Gasket Fits 1 1/2 in. Sch. 40 DWV Drain Pipe in the No-Calk Shower Drains

The 42163 is the rubber caulking gasket only, the compression seal that goes inside an Oatey No-Calk shower drain body. It is not a drain assembly and it does not include the drain body, caulking nut, or strainer. Buy it when the seal in an existing No-Calk drain has hardened or is weeping and the drain body itself is still sound.

No solvent cement, no lead, no torch. The gasket is a compression seal: it drops around the DWV pipe stub and the caulking nut is threaded down against it with a wrench, squeezing the rubber tight to the pipe. That is the whole joint. All you need on site is the wrench for the caulking nut.

Slab construction is what the No-Calk gasket system is built around. The compression joint can be made up after the pipe is set in the slab and does not need heat or cement in the pour, and the gasket itself is replaceable later without breaking out the drain body.

That black ring is the caulking gasket, and it is a wear part. Rubber takes a compression set once it has been squeezed under a caulking nut, so a gasket pulled during a repair rarely reseals reliably. Fit a new one, model 42163, whenever the drain is opened up.

The 42163 is one gasket for the No-Calk shower drain family, and it is sold as a single model with no size or finish options to choose between. For a property manager or maintenance shop stocking spares, that means one part number covers the No-Calk drains it fits, but confirm the pipe material at each opening first, since copper DWV takes a different caulking gasket than the plastic DWV version.
