1) How wide a door will an 8 foot Orca FTSK barn door track handle?
An 8 foot flat track is sized for a door up to roughly 4 feet wide, since a barn door needs about twice its own width of track to slide fully clear of the opening. The Orca FTSK-BL-8C kit ships as two 4 foot track sections joined with a connector plate, so the finished run is 8 feet. Orca also offers the same kit in a 6 foot length for narrower openings.
2) Will the Orca FTSK flat track kit work on a 1-3/8 inch door, or do I need a 1-3/4 inch slab?
Both work. The FTSK kit is set up for interior doors at either 1-3/8 or 1-3/4 inches thick, and the spacers included in the kit are what set the door off the wall for each thickness. It is an interior application only.
3) How much weight can this barn door hardware carry?
The Orca FTSK flat track system is rated at 200 lbs per door. That covers most solid core interior slabs; a heavy glass or oversized custom door needs a higher capacity system.
4) What comes in the Orca FTSK-BL-8C kit, and what do I still have to buy?
The kit is complete for a single door hang: track, two spoke wheel hangers, spacers, end stops, anti-jump blocks, a connector plate, door guides, instructions, and all fasteners. What it does not include is the door itself or any pull or latch hardware. Soft close, soft open, and double door conversion are separate add-on options.
5) Does this track mount to the wall or to the header above the door?
Sidewall mounting. The FTSK track fastens to the wall above the opening, so you need solid backing, studs or a mounted header board, along the full 8 foot run to land the lag points.
6) Do I have to order a left hand or right hand version of this barn door track?
No. The FTSK kit is non-handed, so the same kit slides either direction. You decide the stack side at install by where you mount the track and the end stops.
7) Can I use the Orca FTSK flat track on a pair of bypassing or biparting barn doors?
The FTSK-BL-8C kit as supplied hangs one door with two hangers. Orca lists a double door application as an additional option, so a two-door setup has to be ordered with that option rather than assembled from a single kit.
8) Does this kit keep the door from swinging out at the bottom or jumping the track?
Both are handled. Door guides come in the kit to hold the bottom of the slab against the wall, and anti-jump blocks are included to keep the spoke wheel hangers from lifting off the flat track.
9) Is this barn door track quiet enough for a hotel or office corridor?
The hangers ride on polymer wheels rather than bare steel, which is what keeps the roll quiet, and the track itself is steel. Orca classes the FTSK Series as commercial, so it is intended for higher traffic openings, not just residential.
