1) Will the Orca FTTM 8' flat track kit work on a 1-3/8 inch barn door, or does it need a 1-3/4 inch slab?
Either works. The FTTM top mount hangers are built for doors of 1-3/8 or 1-3/4 inch thickness, which covers both a standard hollow-core interior slab and a solid 1-3/4 inch door. The kit is non-handed, so it slides left or right without ordering a hand.
2) Why is the Orca 8 foot flat track kit shipped as two 4 foot pieces, and does the joint hold?
The 8 foot length comes as two 4 foot track sections joined by a connector plate, which is included along with all fasteners. Splitting it keeps the shipping length manageable and lets you get the track up a stairwell or into a finished room where a single 8 foot stick will not turn a corner. The plate bridges the seam behind the track so the wheels roll across it.
3) What comes in the Orca FTTM track kit, and what do I still need to buy to hang the door?
The kit is complete on the hardware side: track, 2 hangers, spacers, end stops, anti-jump blocks, the optional connector plate, door guides, all fasteners, and instructions. What it does not include is the door itself, a pull or handle, and any privacy latch. If you are mounting to drywall over studs you will want to confirm your backer or mounting board too, since the track mounts to the sidewall above the opening.
4) Can I use the Orca FTTM barn door track on an exterior door or a covered patio?
Interior only. Orca rates the FTTM flat track for interior use, so a garage-to-outside opening, a patio slider, or anything seeing weather is out of scope for this kit. Interior partitions, closets, pantries, and office or conference room openings are what it is built for.
5) I need soft close, or I am hanging two doors on one opening. Does the Orca FTTM 8' kit do that?
Not as supplied. The FTTM-8C is a single door kit with two hangers and a pair of end stops. Orca builds separate FTTM configurations for soft close and soft open, for double door openings, and for bypass, so if the opening needs any of those you order that configuration rather than adding to this one.
6) Can the Orca FTTM flat track be mounted to the ceiling or the door jamb instead of the wall?
No. The FTTM kit is a sidewall mount system, with top mount hangers that fasten to the face of the door and carry it from track fixed to the wall above the opening. If your header is not deep enough to take a wall mounted track, or you need the track carried off the ceiling, this is not the kit for that opening.
7) Is Orca FTTM barn door hardware rated for commercial jobs or is it residential grade?
Commercial. Orca lists the FTTM Series as commercial door hardware, which matters if you are speccing barn slides for offices, clinic exam rooms, hotel bathrooms, or multi-family units rather than a single house. What still has to be true is that the wall above the opening carries the track on a sidewall mount, so you need solid backing across the full 8 foot run, not just at the ends.

Two: black and stainless steel. Black is the common choice where the barn hardware is meant to read as a feature against a light wall; stainless suits healthcare, food service, and jobs where the rest of the door hardware is already brushed stainless and you want the track to disappear into it.
