Orca Hardware ORC-FTTM-BL-8 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Orca FTTM top mount barn door hardware work on a 1-3/8 inch door?
Yes. The FTTM flat track kit is built for interior doors at either 1-3/8 or 1-3/4 inches thick, which covers standard interior slabs and most commercial 1-3/4 inch doors. Anything thicker or thinner than those two thicknesses is outside what the hangers are cut for.
2) How much weight can an Orca FTTM barn door track hold?
200 lbs per door. That is enough for a solid core interior slab, which is what most commercial and multi-family barn door installs use. If you are hanging a heavy solid hardwood or glass panel, weigh it before you commit.
3) What comes in the Orca FTTM flat track kit and what do I still have to buy?
The kit is complete for a single door: 8 foot track, 2 hangers, spacers, end stops, anti-jump blocks, a connector plate for optional use, door guides, instructions, and all fasteners. You supply the door slab and any pull or latch hardware. Soft close and soft open, double door, and bypass setups are separate add-on options.
4) Does the Orca barn door track mount to the wall or the ceiling?
Sidewall mounting. The FTTM track fastens to the wall above the opening, so you need solid backing, a header, or blocking behind the drywall along the full 8 feet to carry the 200 lb door load. It is not set up as a ceiling mounted track.
5) What is the difference between top mount hangers and strap style barn door hangers?
Top mount hangers on the FTTM kit bolt down through the top edge of the door rather than wrapping over the face on a visible strap. That keeps the door face clean and means the hanger does not add to the face profile, but it does require a door with a top edge you can drill and fasten into, and it fixes the door thickness to 1-3/8 or 1-3/4 inches. A face mounted strap is the choice when you do not want to fasten into the top edge.
6) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand barn door track kit?
No handing to specify. The FTTM track kit is non-handed, so the same kit slides the door to the left or the right. Decide the direction on site.
7) Is this barn door hardware rated for commercial use or just residential?
Orca lists the FTTM flat track kit as commercial. The wheels are polymer for quiet operation, which matters in hospitality, healthcare, and office corridors where a steel wheel on steel track gets noisy.
8) Can I use this kit for a pair of barn doors or a bypass setup?
Not as it ships. One FTTM 8 foot kit hangs a single door with two hangers. Orca offers separate options for double door and bypass applications, plus soft close and soft open, so those configurations need the add-on parts ordered alongside.
9) What keeps the door from lifting off the barn door track?
Anti-jump blocks are included in the FTTM flat track kit, and they are specific to the flat track kits rather than every Orca track style. They keep the rollers captive on the track if the door is bumped or lifted. End stops at each end of the 8 foot track limit travel, and floor door guides keep the bottom of the slab from swinging away from the wall.
10) What finishes does the Orca FTTM barn door track come in for matching other openings?
Three finishes: black, satin nickel, and stainless steel. If you are standardizing a building or a floor of units, all three run across the FTTM kits so you can spec one look across every opening.
11) What is the connector plate in the Orca FT track kit for?
The connector plate is for joining track runs, and it is included for optional use in the FT kits. If your opening needs more than the 8 feet one kit provides, the plate lets you splice a second length of track in line rather than having to source a longer single piece.
