1) Will this barn door track work on a 1-3/8 inch door, or does it need a 1-3/4?
Both work. The Orca FTSK hangers are set up for interior doors at either 1-3/8 or 1-3/4 inches thick, and the kit ships with the spacers that take up the difference between the door face and the wall. That covers the two standard interior slab thicknesses, so a hollow core 1-3/8 or a solid 1-3/4 slab both hang on it.
2) How much weight can the Orca FTSK flat track carry?
200 lbs per door. That is enough for a solid core 1-3/4 inch slab in most standard interior sizes, but it rules out heavy glass or thick built-up doors. The track itself is steel, and it mounts to the sidewall rather than hanging from the ceiling or jamb, so the framing behind that wall has to carry the load.
3) Do I need to order anything else to hang a barn door with this kit, or is everything in the box?
The kit is complete for one door: track, two spoke wheel hangers, spacers, end stops, anti-jump blocks, a connector plate for optional use, door guides, all fasteners, and instructions. What it does not include is the door itself or any pull or latch hardware. If you want soft close, soft open, or a two door setup, those are separate add-ons.
4) Does this mount to the wall or to the door jamb and header?
Sidewall mount. The FTSK track fastens to the wall above the opening, which means you need solid backing, header framing or a mounted wall board, running the full length of the 8 foot track. It is not a jamb-mounted or ceiling-mounted system, so on an opening with no wall surface above the trim you will need to add a backer board first.
5) Do I have to specify left hand or right hand for this barn door track?
No handing to call out. The FTSK flat track kit is non-handed, so the same kit works whether the door parks to the left or the right of the opening. Handing only comes into play when you set the end stops during install.
6) Is this barn door hardware quiet enough for an office or hotel corridor?
The hangers run polymer wheels rather than bare steel, which is what keeps the roll noise down on a flat track. The kit is rated commercial, so it is intended for traffic beyond a residential closet. If you want it to stop softly instead of hitting the end stop, the soft close and soft open accessories are ordered separately.
7) Can I use two of these kits for a double barn door opening?
Double door setups are handled as a separate option rather than by the standard single door kit, which ships with two hangers, enough for one slab. Each FTSK kit also includes a connector plate, which is what lets flat track sections be joined end to end on longer runs.
8) What keeps a barn door from swinging off the track at the bottom?
Two pieces in the FTSK kit handle that. Anti-jump blocks sit at the hangers and stop the wheels lifting off the flat track, and floor or wall door guides keep the bottom of the slab from swinging away from the wall. Both come in the box along with the fasteners, so there is no separate guide to source.
9) What finish does the Orca FTSK spoke wheel barn door kit come in?
