Panduit PISR250-1 Pan-Lug In-Line Splicer/Reducer, Tin-Plated Aluminum

The Panduit PISR250-1 Pan-Lug™ is a mechanical multi-tap connector engineered for use as a tap, splice, or dead-end lug, built from high-strength extruded aluminum alloy and finished with a tin plating for reliable, low-resistance connections. It is dual rated for copper or aluminum conductors, accepting a 10 AWG-250 kcmil aluminum conductor range and a 10 AWG STR-250 kcmil, 10-8 AWG SOL copper conductor range, and it carries a 600V maximum voltage rating with a 90°C UL and CSA temperature rating. The connector is UL Listed and CSA Certified, giving electricians and panel builders a code-recognized option for power distribution and grounding tap applications.

Key Features

  • Dual Conductor Rating: Accepts 10 AWG-250 kcmil aluminum conductors and 10 AWG STR-250 kcmil / 10-8 AWG SOL copper conductors for flexible tap, splice, or dead-end lug applications.
  • Durable Construction: Made from high-strength, extruded aluminum alloy for premium electrical and mechanical performance.
  • Tin-Plated Finish: Tin plating supports a low-resistance, corrosion-resistant connection point.
  • Blue PVC Insulation: Clear-inspection blue PVC insulation eliminates the need for taping and allows visual confirmation of complete conductor insertion.
  • 600V Rated: Maximum voltage rating of 600V suits a wide range of power distribution circuits.
  • 90°C Temperature Rating: UL and CSA temperature rating of 90°C for demanding electrical environments.
  • Hex Screw Design: Hex screw type simplifies torqueing during installation.
  • Wire Strip Length: Requires a 1-1/8" wire strip length for proper conductor seating.

Panduit PISR250-1 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Panduit PISR in-line splicer be used on both aluminum and copper conductors?
Yes, the Pan-Lug PISR is dual rated. The PISR250-1 takes 10 AWG through 250 kcmil aluminum, and on the copper side 10 AWG stranded through 250 kcmil plus 10-8 AWG solid. That dual rating is what makes it usable for an aluminum feeder to copper branch transition in a panel, and the body is tin-plated aluminum alloy so you are not putting bare aluminum against copper.
2) What is the difference between the PISR250-1 and the PISR500-1?
Wire range. Two versions are made: the PISR250-1 covers up to 250 kcmil and the PISR500-1 covers up to 500 kcmil. Pick by the largest conductor you have to land, since the bigger barrel on the 500 also means a larger connector overall. Both are Pan-Lug mechanical connectors sold one to a package.
3) How much insulation do I strip before inserting the wire into a PISR250-1?
Strip 1-1/8 inches (28.5 mm). The blue PVC insulation on the connector is clear enough to inspect through, so after you push the conductor in you can confirm visually that it is fully seated past the screw before you torque it. No taping needed afterward.
4) Is the Panduit PISR connector rated for 600V branch and feeder work?
600V maximum, UL Listed and CSA Certified to that voltage, with a 90 C temperature rating under both UL and CSA. That covers standard commercial and industrial power distribution circuits and lets a specifier or inspector sign off on it as a code-recognized mechanical connector.
5) Do I need a crimp tool for the PISR250-1 or is it a set-screw connector?
It is mechanical, not compression. Hex screws hold the conductors, so a hex key or torque wrench is all you need, no crimper or die set. That matters on service work where you are splicing in place and cannot get a hydraulic tool around the conductor.
6) Can one PISR connector be used as a tap, a splice, and a dead-end lug?
Yes, all three. The Pan-Lug PISR in-line splicer/reducer is built to serve as a tap, a splice, or a dead-end lug, which is why it gets specified for panelboard and switchgear taps, grounding and bonding splices, and reducing from a large feeder down to a smaller conductor.
7) Is the Panduit PISR splicer made in the USA and ARRA compliant for a federal job?
Country of origin is the United States and the part is flagged ARRA compliant, so it can go on Buy American federally funded work. It is also RoHS compliant, with no mercury content.
8) How big is the PISR250-1 body, and will it fit in a tight gutter?
The 250 kcmil version measures 4 inches overall length by 1.25 inches overall width, with an overall height of 56.9 mm. Check that against your wireway or gutter depth before you commit, and remember the 500 kcmil version is physically larger.
9) Can I buy a single Panduit PISR connector or do I have to take a carton?
Single pieces. Minimum order is 1 piece and the standard package is 1 piece, so you can pick up one for a single splice instead of buying a full carton.
10) Will the tin plating on this connector hold up in a damp industrial panel?
The body is high-strength extruded aluminum alloy with a tin plating, which is there to keep the contact surface low-resistance and corrosion resistant. The blue PVC sleeve covers the connection so you are not taping it, and the assembly is rated to 90 C for hot panel environments.
