1) Which Panduit SR splicer/reducer do I need for 4/0 AWG cable?
For 4/0 you want SR-4/0-XY, which covers #6 through 4/0 AWG. The other two Pan-Lug SR bodies stop short of that: SR-0-XY handles #14 to 1/0 AWG stranded, and SR-2-XY handles #14 to #2 AWG stranded. Pick the body by the largest conductor going into it, then confirm the smaller leg also falls inside that range.
2) Can I use the Pan-Lug SR connector on solid wire as well as stranded?
Yes on the two dual-rated bodies. SR-0-XY and SR-2-XY are both rated #14 to #10 AWG solid alongside their stranded ranges, so a solid #12 branch lands legally in either one. The SR-4/0-XY is listed for #6 to 4/0 AWG without a separate solid rating called out, so treat it as the large-conductor body.
3) Does the Panduit SR splicer come insulated, or do I have to tape or boot it?
