The entry panel is a robust door entry panel incorporating both door entry and access control functions. It is powered using power over Ethernet (PoE) and communicates with the other elements of the system using IPv6, providing ‘plug and play’ installation. Each panel is associated with a entry control unit which is the interface to the door hardware. The panel is equipped with a keypad and a proximity token reader. A resident can use either the keypad or a token to gain entry. Installers gain access to the menu options using an engineer code or an engineer token. Net2 or Paxton10 software can be used to administer the access control functions. Decide how the units are to be connected. You can either run your own wired network or (with the owner’s permission) share the buildings existing data network. If using the owners network, the system uses IPv6 protocol and PoE (power over Ethernet) so the network must support this switch type.

1) Will the Paxton Entry standard panel work on my existing building network, or do I need to run new cable?
Either approach works, but the network has to meet the panel's requirements. The Entry panel is powered over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af class 0) and talks to the rest of the system over IPv6, so a shared building network needs switches that support PoE and IPv6. Cable is CAT5, and the Ethernet run is limited to 100m/328ft per segment. Budget 1Mb/s of multicast bandwidth per panel during a call. If the existing network cannot do PoE and IPv6 multicast, run a dedicated wired network for the door entry system instead.
2) Can the Paxton Entry panel be mounted outside at an uncovered building entrance?
Yes. The standard panel ships with a rain hood and is rated IP55 for moisture and IK08 for vandal resistance, with an operating range of -20C to +50C (-4F to +122F). The housing is ABS/polycarbonate in RAL 7021 anthracite grey. It's a surface mount panel, so it goes on the face of the wall rather than into a cut-out box.
3) Will the Paxton Entry panel read the fobs and cards my tenants already carry?
It reads Paxton, EM4100/02, MiFare, MiFare Classic, MiFare DESFire EV1, MiFare Plus, MiFare Ultralight, MiFare Ultralight C and MiFare Mini tokens. HID Prox is supported but requires activation. If your building is on 125 kHz EM or Paxton tokens, or on 13.56 MHz MiFare, existing credentials carry over and you are not reissuing the whole fleet.
4) What else do I have to buy to make a Paxton Entry panel actually open the door?
The panel is the street-side reader and intercom only. Each panel has to be paired with a Paxton Entry control unit, which is the interface to the door hardware, so the strike, mag lock or electric latch wires to the control unit rather than to the panel. You also need a PoE source on the network side. Free exit and any power supply for the lock hardware are separate.
5) Do I need Net2 or Paxton10 software to use a Paxton Entry panel, or will it run on its own?
It runs standalone for token entry, supporting up to 100 card packs (up to 5,000 tokens/users). But PIN and code entry only works alongside Net2 or Paxton10 software, and Bluetooth credentials require Paxton10. If you want residents entering a code on the keypad rather than presenting a token, budget for the software. Installers get into the panel menus with an engineer code or engineer token either way.
6) How much wall space does the Paxton Entry surface mount panel take up?
The panel measures 11.8 x 4.5 x 3.1 inches (height x width x depth). Because it surface mounts, the full 3.1 inch depth stands proud of the wall, which matters at a recessed doorway or anywhere a projection could catch a swinging door or block a handrail path.

Up to 100 panels per system. 8) Can residents answer the Paxton Entry panel on a phone instead of a hardware handset?
The panel is SIP compatible, so calls can route to SIP endpoints rather than only to dedicated Entry monitors. It's a two way audio panel with a full color camera and pan/tilt functionality, so whoever answers sees the caller and can adjust the view rather than being stuck with a fixed frame at a wide entrance.
9) How do hands-free and phone-based entry work on a Paxton Entry panel?
Bluetooth credentials need Paxton10 and run in four modes: token mode, where the credential is presented to the reader like a card; touch to enter, using a smart credential or hands free keyfob left in a pocket; long range, which picks up a smart credential or hands free keyfob at up to 10m; and off. Long range is the one to specify at a vehicle gate or a lobby where you do not want people stopping at the panel.
10) Is the Paxton Entry keypad usable at night and by residents with poor eyesight?
The 16 key keypad and the LCD are both back-lit, so the panel is legible after dark without a separate entrance light. Residents can use either the keypad or a proximity token to get in, which gives a fallback when someone forgets a fob.
11) What color is the Paxton Entry standard panel and can I get it in another finish?
Anthracite grey, RAL 7021, is the only finish. The molding is ABS/polycarbonate, so the color runs through the housing rather than sitting on top as a coating that can chip at the edges on a high-traffic entrance.
