Paxton Entry, Vandal Resistant Panel with Rain Hood, 16 Key, Surface Mount, 13.56 MHz, 2.4GHz, Two Way Audio, Full Color Camera, Proximity Entry

The entry panel is a robust door entry panel incorporating both door entry and access control functions. It is powered using power over Ethernet (PoE) and communicates with the other elements of the system using IPv6, providing ‘plug and play’ installation. Each panel is associated with a entry control unit which is the interface to the door hardware. The panel is equipped with a keypad and a proximity token reader. A resident can use either the keypad or a token to gain entry. Installers gain access to the menu options using an engineer code or an engineer token. Net2 or Paxton10 software can be used to administer the access control functions. Decide how the units are to be connected. You can either run your own wired network or (with the owner’s permission) share the buildings existing data network. If using the owners network, the system uses IPv6 protocol and PoE (power over Ethernet) so the network must support this switch type.

Paxton Access Inc 337-510-US – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What power and network does the Paxton Entry vandal resistant panel need at the door?
It runs on Power over Ethernet, IEEE 802.3af class 0, so a single Cat cable both powers the panel and carries the call. Communication is IPv6 multicast, and you need about 1Mb/s multicast per panel while a call is active. Run limit is 100m/328ft of Ethernet from the switch. If you are sharing the building's existing data network rather than pulling a dedicated one, the switch has to support PoE and IPv6, or the panel will not come up.
2) Will this Paxton entry panel read the cards my building already uses?
It reads Paxton, EM4100/02, MiFare, MiFare Classic, MiFare DESFire EV1, MiFare Plus, MiFare Ultralight, MiFare Ultralight C and MiFare Mini. HID Prox is supported but requires activation. If your existing credential falls outside that list, the panel will not read it and you would be re-badging residents.
3) Is the surface mount version of the Paxton Entry panel suitable for an exposed exterior entrance?
Yes. The housing is 316L marine grade stainless steel, sealed to IP55 against moisture, and this version includes a rain hood for driving weather. Operating range is -20C to +50C (-4F to +122F). Impact resistance is IK10, which is the top rating in that scale, so it holds up at street-level doors and unsupervised lobbies.
4) Do I need Paxton software to use the keypad codes on this entry panel?
Yes. PIN and code entry works only in conjunction with Net2 or Paxton10 software. The same applies to Bluetooth credentials, which require Paxton10 specifically. Run the panel fully standalone and you are relying on tokens, with a ceiling of 5,000 tokens/users via 100 card packs.
5) Does the Paxton Entry panel release the door lock directly, or do I need another piece?
The panel itself does not switch the lock. Each panel pairs with a Paxton Entry control unit, and that unit is the interface to the door hardware. Budget for one control unit per door alongside the panel, plus whatever strike, mag lock or power supply the opening needs.
6) How much wall space and projection does the surface mount Paxton Entry panel take up?
Figure on 12 x 4.5 x 2.5 inches. Because it is surface mount, that depth sits proud of the wall rather than buried in it, so check clearance against door swings, frame returns and any ADA path of travel at the entrance. If the projection is a problem, Paxton also builds the Entry panel in a flush mount version.
7) How many Paxton Entry panels can I put on one system for a multi-building property?
Up to 100 panels on a single system. Because everything is IP and PoE, adding an entrance later is a matter of a network drop rather than re-running riser cable back to a head end, which is what makes it workable for phased multi-family or campus rollouts.
8) Can a resident see who is at the door, and can the camera cover a wider area than straight ahead?
Two way audio and a full color camera are built in, and the camera is pan/tilt so it can be aimed off-axis to catch a visitor standing to one side or to frame a recessed entry. There is also a back-lit LCD on the panel itself for resident directory and engineer menus.
9) What Bluetooth entry options does the Paxton Entry panel support for hands-free access?
Four modes, all requiring Paxton10: token mode where the credential is presented to the reader, touch to enter using a smart credential or hands free keyfob left in a pocket, long range reading a smart credential or keyfob at up to 10m, and Bluetooth off. Long range is the one to pick for a vehicle gate or a busy lobby where you do not want people stopping at the panel.
10) How does an installer get into the setup menu on a Paxton Entry panel?
Through the panel keypad using an engineer code, or by presenting an engineer token to the reader. Ongoing administration of users and access rights is then handled from Net2 or Paxton10 software rather than at the door.
