1) Can the Paxton10 slimline reader be flush or recess mounted, or is it surface only?
Surface only. The slimline reader mounts on the face of the wall or door frame, with a 2-part housing and a 5m (16ft) encapsulated cable coming out the back, so there is no flush or in-wall version of it. It is a low profile unit, 43/64 inch deep, so it sits close to the surface once mounted. If your spec calls for a recessed reader you need a different Paxton10 reader type, not this one.
2) Will the Paxton10 slimline reader fit on a narrow aluminum door frame mullion?
It measures 1-59/64 x 4-3/32 x 43/64 inches, so the mounting face is under two inches across its narrow dimension. That is what makes it the reader to pick for a glass front entry where the only place to put a reader is the stile or mullion, rather than a wider keypad-style unit. Check the cable route: the cable is encapsulated into the body, so you need a hole behind the reader footprint to take it.
3) Which card and fob types does the Paxton10 slimline reader read?
It reads all of these at once, with no mode to select: Paxton, EM4100/02, Sony FeliCa Lite-S, MiFare Classic, MiFare DESFire EV1/EV2, MiFare Plus, MiFare Ultralight, Ultralight C, MiFare Mini, NFC, Hitag2, and HID Prox 125kHz low frequency. It works on both RFID bands, 125kHz and 13.56MHz. In practice that means a building part way through a credential changeover keeps working on the old fobs while new MiFare or mobile credentials are issued.
4) How many wires does the Paxton10 slimline reader need, and how far can it run from the controller?
Four wires. The supplied cable is 22AWG, 4 core twisted pair, 5m long and moulded into the reader. Where the controller is further away, the run can be extended to a maximum of 100m controller to reader. Data is RS485 on the Paxton10 protocol, not Wiegand or OSDP, so it lands on a Paxton10 controller port rather than a generic reader input.
5) Can this Paxton reader be wired to a non-Paxton access control panel?
No. Its data connection is RS485 running the Paxton10 protocol, so it reports to a Paxton10 controller. It is not a Wiegand or OSDP output reader and will not drop onto a third party panel's reader input. If you are keeping an existing non-Paxton head end, this is the wrong reader for that job.
6) Is this Paxton reader rated for outdoor use on an exterior door or gate?
IP67 and IK10 rated, with an operating range of -31F to +150F, so it holds up outside on an entry door, a gate pedestal, or a parking barrier. IK10 is the impact side of it, which matters on a reader mounted at a loading dock or an unsupervised exterior door. The housing is PC+ABS in black.
7) Does the Paxton10 slimline reader support phone credentials?
Yes, over Bluetooth low energy at 2.4 GHz, for mobile phones, wearables, and long range or hands free credentials through the Paxton app. The Bluetooth radio is built in, so there is no add-on module to order. Card reading and Bluetooth run together, which is the usual way a site rolls phone credentials out to staff while visitors and contractors stay on fobs.
8) What power supply does the Paxton10 slimline reader need?
