2) Can I run the PaxLock Pro without an access control system installed?

It's a dual frequency reader at 13.56 MHz and 125 kHz-class legacy tokens, and the published token list covers Paxton, EM4100/02, MiFare, MiFare Classic, MiFare DESFire EV1, MiFare Plus, MiFare Ultralight, Ultralight C, MiFare Mini, HID Prox, Sony and FeliCa Lite-S. It also has Bluetooth built in for phone credentials. If your existing badges are on that list, tenants keep the cards they have.
4) Is a battery powered lock like this going to hold up on a busy tenant door?
Paxton rates the PaxLock Pro for typically up to 75 uses per day. It runs on 4x AA 1.5V alkaline cells with a battery life of 55,000 operations. Higher traffic than that (a main entry, a gym door, a shared laundry on a large property) is better served by a wired reader and electric strike, since you'd be changing cells too often.
5) Can I use the PaxLock Pro on a fire rated door?
No. Fire resistance on this handle set is listed as N/A, so it should not go on a fire rated opening. For those doors use a fire rated mechanical lock or a fire rated electrified lock that carries the label. The PaxLock Pro does carry UL 294 for access control equipment, along with ISED, ANSI and FCC.
6) How much space does the PaxLock Pro handle take up on the door face?
Body only measures 2-33/64 x 5 x 1-49/64 inches. With the handle it comes out to 6-3/8 x 5 x 3-27/64 inches. That last depth figure is what matters if the door sits near a return wall or a frame reveal, since the escutcheon plus lever has to clear it.
