Paxton Proximity KP50 Keypad

  • Use with Switch2 or Net2
  • Keypad and proximity reader all in one
  • Easy mounting
  • Black or white bezels
  • Low profile - less than 16mm deep

About – KP readers are a keypad and a proximity reader all in one. This allows card plus PIN (or code) access control with a single reader. KP readers are for use with Switch2 and Net2 systems. The KP series keypads are supplied with black bezels only. Replacement bezels are available in black and white/gray, and are free of charge to Paxton registered installers from the Paxton Portal.

Installation – The reader is wired as shown on the control unit label. Be sure to avoid mounting on metal surfaces or near other proximity readers as this will affect the read range. The cable exits centrally from the back of the reader making drilling and mounting very accurate.

Operation – A token is read by holding it within close proximity of the reader. Once a token has been read if the reader has been configured for code/PIN this must then be entered using the keypad. The control unit verifies the information and grants or denies access as appropriate. If access is granted the green LED flashes. If access is denied the red LED flashes.

Paxton Access Inc 355-110-US – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Paxton KP50 work with Net2, or is it only for Switch2?
The KP50 proximity keypad runs on either. It is built for use with both Paxton Switch2 and Net2 systems, so the same reader can go on a standalone Switch2 door or on a networked Net2 system.
2) Do I need a separate card reader if I install a KP50 keypad?
No. The KP50 is a keypad and a proximity reader in one housing, so you get card only, PIN only, or card plus PIN on a single unit at the door. One back box, one cable run.
3) What voltage does the Paxton KP50 keypad need?
The KP50 runs on 10V to 14V DC, which is what the Paxton control unit supplies on its reader terminals. Wire it to the connections shown on the control unit label.
4) Can I mount the KP50 on a metal door frame or mullion?
Avoid it. Mounting the KP50 on metal, or close to another proximity reader, cuts the read range. If the only mounting spot is a metal frame or mullion, plan on a non-metallic spacer or pick a location off the metal.
5) How big is the Paxton KP50 keypad and how far does it stand off the wall?
It measures 4 x 2 x 0.6 inches, so it is under 16mm deep. That low profile lets it sit on a narrow frame or beside a glass front without projecting much.
6) Does the KP50 come with a white bezel, or only black?
KP series keypads ship with black bezels only. White/gray replacement bezels exist, and Paxton supplies replacement bezels in black and white/gray free of charge to registered installers through the Paxton Portal. If the job calls for white, order the reader and source the bezel through your Paxton registration.
7) How do I know at the door whether the KP50 accepted the credential?
The reader gives an LED response after the control unit decides. Green LED flashes on an access grant, red LED flashes on a denial. If the reader is set for card plus PIN, the token is presented first and the code is then keyed in before that decision is made.
8) Where does the cable come out of the Paxton KP50, and how does that affect drilling?
The cable exits centrally from the back of the reader. That means one center hole behind the unit, so you can mark and drill straight off the mounting center rather than offsetting for a side or corner exit.
