The proximity readers with genuine HID technology are for use with the Net2 or 3rd party access control systems. These readers work with standard cards with genuine HID technology, operating at 125 kHz. The Wiegand card data is transmitted untruncated. The reader range includes the Proximity P50M reader with genuine HID technology and the proximity metal reader with genuine HID technology. These readers are pre-activated with 125kHz genuine HID technology out of the box. There is no need to purchase an activation license to use this technology. Wiegand output is available with a separate purchase of an activation card. The KP series keypads are supplied with black fascias only. Replacement fascias are available in black and white/gray, and are free of charge to Paxton registered installers from the extranet.

1) Will the Paxton KP75 keypad reader work with an access control system that isn't Net2?
Yes. The KP75 proximity keypad reader is built for Net2 or third party access control systems, and it sends the Wiegand card data untruncated, so a third party panel sees the full card number rather than a shortened one. One catch on the order form: Wiegand output requires a separate activation card purchase. The 125 kHz genuine HID side is pre-activated out of the box, with no license needed.
2) Will the Paxton KP75 read the 125 kHz HID prox cards our building already uses?
It reads standard cards with genuine HID technology at 125 kHz, and it ships pre-activated for HID tokens, so existing 125 kHz HID credentials work without buying an activation license. It will not read 13.56 MHz smart credentials; the KP75 is a 125 kHz reader only. If your site has migrated to high frequency cards, you need a different reader.
3) Can a Paxton KP75 keypad be mounted outdoors on an exterior door?
Yes. The KP75 carries an IPX7 rating and is stated as suitable for external use, so an exterior door, a gate pedestal, or a parking entry is within what it is built for. IPX7 covers water ingress only; the rating says nothing about dust.
4) How much space does the Paxton KP75 reader need on the door frame or wall?
The keypad measures 5.6 x 3 x 0.6 inches. At 3 inches wide it is too wide to sit on a typical narrow aluminum stile or a standard door mullion, so plan on the wall beside the opening or a surface mount box. The 0.6 inch depth is shallow enough that it stands only slightly proud of the surface.
5) Does the Paxton KP75 come in white, or is black the only color?
Black is the only way the KP series keypads are supplied; the fascias ship black. Replacement fascias exist in black and in white/gray, and Paxton provides those free of charge to registered installers through their extranet, so a white face on a white frame is achievable but it is a swap you arrange with Paxton rather than a color you order here.
6) What is the difference between a keypad reader like the Paxton KP75 and a plain prox reader?
The KP75 gives you 13 keys alongside the 125 kHz HID prox read, so you can run card only, PIN only, or card plus PIN depending on how the controller is configured. A plain prox reader such as Paxton's P50 with genuine HID technology reads the token and nothing else. Use the keypad where you want a second factor on a higher risk door, or where some users need code access without carrying a credential; use the plain reader on interior doors where a token is enough and there is less to vandalize.
7) Do I have to buy an HID license or activation to use the Paxton KP75 with HID cards?
No license purchase for the HID side. The reader is pre-activated with 125 kHz genuine HID technology out of the box. The only thing that costs extra is Wiegand output, which is enabled by a separately purchased activation card.
8) Can I standardize on the Paxton KP75 across both interior and exterior doors in a facility?
You can. One reader model covering both saves carrying two spare part numbers: the IPX7 rating makes it suitable for external use, and nothing about it restricts interior mounting. The constraint is physical, not environmental, at 5.6 x 3 x 0.6 inches it needs a flat surface roughly the size of a single gang plate plus some, so glass doors and narrow stiles will need a mounting post or the wall beside them.
