1) How far can a PaxLock Pro be from the Paxton10 wireless connector?
Typical wireless range to a PaxLock is 15m/50ft. That is the number that decides your mounting position: doors further out than that need a second connector rather than a bigger antenna. The connector itself can sit up to 100m/328ft of RS485 cable from the controller, and connector to connector is also 100m/328ft, so you have plenty of cable budget to place each unit near its group of doors.
2) Can the Paxton10 wireless connector be mounted outdoors or in a parking garage?
Not on its own. It is surface only or backbox mounted, with no IP rating, so any outdoor location needs it inside a suitable housing. Operating temperature is +32F to +113F, which also rules out unheated spaces that drop below freezing. Indoors it is built for discreet ceiling or wall mounting above the door line.
3) How is the Paxton10 wireless connector powered, and does it need its own power supply at the ceiling?
No local supply needed. The connector is powered over the RS485 run at 30VDC, drawing 300mA maximum. That means a single cable from the controller carries both data and power, which is what makes ceiling placement practical without pulling a separate power drop to each unit.
4) Will the Paxton10 wireless connector run my Z-Wave devices?
Z-Wave capacity is specified at up to 200 devices per connector, but the Z-Wave function is currently unavailable, which is why the red Z-Wave LED is noted that way. Treat it as a Bluetooth link to PaxLock Pro locks today and don't design a Z-Wave rollout around it.
5) I have 25 PaxLock Pro doors on one floor. How many wireless connectors do I need?
Three at minimum on lock count alone, since each connector handles 10 PaxLock Pros. But the real driver is usually the 15m/50ft wireless range, so lay out connectors by which doors sit within that radius rather than by dividing 25 by 10. A single controller supports 3 cascaded connectors, so a 25 door floor is at the edge of one controller's connector chain.
6) What size backbox or ceiling space do I need for a Paxton10 wireless connector?
Plan for a unit measuring 6-29/64 inches wide by 6-27/64 inches high by 1-11/32 inches deep. It is close to square in face and just over an inch and a third deep, so it fits a shallow surface position on a wall or ceiling tile without a deep chase.
7) How do I tell on site whether the Paxton10 wireless connector is talking to the controller and the locks?
Three LEDs give you the diagnosis without a laptop. Green covers health and comms back to the controller, blue covers the Bluetooth link out to the locks, and red is Z-Wave, which is currently unavailable. So a dead green means look at your RS485 run, and a dead blue means look at lock pairing or distance.
