The alarm connector is a miniature I/O connector that allows fire and intruder alarms to integrate with a Paxton10 system. The discreet board has a compact design to fit neatly inside the alarm housing. This alarm connector is specifically designed to connect your current building alarm systems to the Paxton10 building intelligence system. Based on the alarm status, Paxton10 can control other appliances within the building to take appropriate action such as opening fire doors in the event of a fire alarm. You can also set or unset an intruder alarm, based on opening or securing the building at the beginning or end of the day.

1) What does the Paxton10 alarm connector actually do in an access control system?
The Paxton10 alarm connector is a small I/O board that ties an existing fire or intruder alarm panel into a Paxton10 system. It gives you two monitoring inputs and one relay, so Paxton10 can read alarm status and react (for example releasing fire doors on a fire alarm), and can set or unset the intruder alarm when the building is secured or opened. It is not an alarm panel itself and it does not replace one.
2) How far can the alarm connector be run from the Paxton10 controller?
Up to 328 ft of dataline between the Paxton10 controller and the alarm connector. The link is RS485 running the Paxton10 protocol, so if your alarm panel sits further than that from the controller you need to relocate the controller or add one closer to the panel.
3) What can I switch with the alarm connector's relay?
One relay rated 2A at 30V AC/DC. That suits dry-contact signalling into an alarm panel's set/unset or keyswitch input. It will not directly switch a mains-powered device or a heavier load, so anything above 2A or above 30V needs an interposing relay or contactor. Relay contact isolation is not provided.
4) Does this alarm connector work with any brand of access control, or only Paxton?
Only Paxton10. It communicates over RS485 using the Paxton10 protocol and is powered and addressed from a Paxton10 controller, so it is not a generic dry-contact interface for other access platforms. The alarm panel it monitors can be any brand, since that side is wired to the two inputs and the relay.
5) What voltage and power does the Paxton10 alarm connector need?
It runs on 30V DC and draws 2W. It takes power and data from the Paxton10 controller side, so you are not putting a separate supply in the alarm can for it.
6) Can I monitor both a fire alarm and an intruder alarm with one connector?
Two monitoring inputs are provided, so one board can take a fire alarm status signal on one input and an intruder alarm status on the other. The single relay is the output side, used for intruder alarm set/unset. If you need more monitored points than two, you add another connector.
7) Where can the alarm connector be installed, temperature-wise?
It is rated for indoor use inside an alarm box or the Paxton10 connector housing, up to 131 degrees F. Mounting is adhesive feet or enclosure only, so it is not a device you fix to a wall on its own or put anywhere damp or exterior.
8) Is there any way to troubleshoot the alarm connector on site without a laptop?
Fault finding LEDs are built onto the board, along with clear labeling on the terminals, so a technician can check power and connection status at the panel during commissioning or a callback.
