1) Does the Paxton10 video and door controller come with hard drives for video storage?
No. The unit has two SATA inputs that accept drives in a RAID1 configuration, but the drives are not included. You order them separately and install both if you want the mirrored RAID1 setup.
2) How do you power a Paxton10 video controller, PoE or a transformer?
Either. It runs on PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at Type 2, 42.5-57V DC input, 25.5W, giving 12.8V DC at 3.6A) or on a 24V AC feed through the onboard 4A supply, which outputs 12/24V DC at 4A. Controller input voltage itself is 12V to 24V DC. There are also backup battery connectors for an optional 12V DC 7Ah battery.
3) How many cameras and doors does one Paxton10 video controller handle?
One unit covers 4 cameras and 1 door, with up to 2 readers or keypads on that door. It combines the door controller and the video recorder in a single enclosure, so no separate NVR or integration is needed for those four cameras.
4) Will the Paxton10 controller relays switch my maglock or electric strike directly?
There are two relays rated 30V DC at 2A, plus a dedicated powered lock output at 12V DC/1A. A 12V lock drawing 1A or less can run straight off the lock output; anything higher current or on its own supply should be switched through a relay within the 30V DC/2A rating.
5) What happens to the door if the Paxton10 controller loses connection to the server?
Programming is stored locally on the controller, so access decisions keep working at the door if the link to the server goes down. Pair that with the optional 12V DC 7Ah backup battery on the onboard battery connectors and the opening keeps running through a network or power interruption.
6) Is the Paxton10 door and video controller UL listed for access control?
It carries UL 294 and FCC 15C. UL 294 is the access control system units standard, which is what most specs and AHJs call for on a door controller.
7) What size wall space do I need for the Paxton10 metal enclosure?
The wall-mount metal enclosure measures 12-23/32 inches wide by 12-23/32 inches high by 2-63/64 inches deep. Allow clearance for the lid and for cable entry on top of that footprint.
8) Can I mount the Paxton10 video controller in an unheated garage or outdoors?
Operating temperature is 32F to 113F, so it belongs in conditioned or protected space. An unheated space that drops below freezing, or a spot in direct sun in summer, is outside the rating. It is a wall-mount unit and not specified for exterior exposure.
9) What door inputs does the Paxton10 controller give me for a monitored opening?
You get a door contact input, an exit button input, a tamper input, and one voltage free digital input, plus two relays. That is enough to monitor door position, take a request to exit, report enclosure tamper, and drive a lock and an auxiliary device from the same unit.

Yes. The RS485 reader output supplies 12V DC at up to 1A for Paxton readers, and the RS485 connector output supplies 24V DC at up to 750mA for Paxton connectors. Both outputs are specified for Paxton devices only, so third party readers need their own supply.
