The Paxton10 video controller combines both the door controller and a video recorder into one unit. Removing the need for any additional integration, the video controller makes installing an access control system with video recording a seamless and simple task. 1) How do I power the Paxton10 Video/Door Controller, and can I run it on PoE?
Two options. It runs on PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at Type 2, 42.5-57V DC input, 25.5W, giving 12.8V DC at 3.6A), or on the included 12-24VDC 4A power supply which takes a 24V AC input. Controller input voltage is 12V to 24V DC either way. Backup battery connectors are on board for an optional 12V DC 7Ah battery.
2) Are hard drives included with the Paxton10 Video/Door Controller?
No drives ship with it. The unit has 2 SATA inputs and both can be populated at once for a RAID1 mirror, but you supply the drives. Budget for two matching SATA drives if you want the redundancy.
3) Will the Paxton10 video controller keep doors working if the network or server goes down?
Yes. Programming is stored locally on the controller, so access decisions keep running at the door if the connection to the server is lost. Data connection to the system is IP.
4) Will the Paxton10 controller drive my maglock or electric strike directly?
It has a powered lock output rated 12V DC / 1A, which covers most strikes and many maglocks drawing under an amp at 12V. There are also 2 relays rated 30V DC / 2A if you need dry contacts for a higher-draw lock on its own supply or for an auxiliary device.
5) How many readers can I connect to one Paxton10 video controller, and can I use non-Paxton readers?
Up to 2 readers or keypads per door, wired on RS485. The reader output is 12V DC at 1A max and is specified for Paxton readers only; the RS485 connector output is 24V DC at 750mA max and is likewise for Paxton connectors only. Plan on Paxton reader hardware on those ports.
6) Is the Paxton10 video controller UL listed for access control?
Yes, the Paxton10 Video/Door Controller carries UL 294 and FCC 15C. UL 294 is the access control system units standard, which is what most specs and AHJs call for on a door controller.
7) How much wall space do I need for the Paxton10 video controller enclosure?
The metal enclosure measures 12-23/32 inches wide by 12-23/32 inches high by 2-63/64 inches deep, and it is wall mounted. Leave room below and to the side for conduit and cable dressing, and keep the front clear so the lid can come off to service the SATA drives.

Not outdoors, and not anywhere that drops below freezing. Operating range is 32F to 113F, and the unit is a wall-mount interior enclosure. Put it in a conditioned closet, IDF, or back-of-house space.
9) What door inputs does the Paxton10 video controller have for monitoring and egress?
Door contact input, exit button input, tamper input, and one voltage-free digital input, plus 2 relays. That covers a standard monitored opening: request-to-exit device, door position switch, and a tamper on the enclosure, with a spare input for something like a fire alarm interface contact.
10) How much current does the Paxton10 video controller itself draw when sizing a supply?
With the battery already charged it idles at 74mA/3.87W and peaks at 122mA/6.39W. While it is charging a backup battery, idle rises to 114mA/5.9W and max to 160mA/8.3W. That is the controller alone, so add your lock and reader loads on top when sizing the supply.
11) Does the white finish mean anything for the Paxton10 video controller enclosure?
White is the only finish offered on this metal-enclosure version. It is a functional back-of-house housing, so the finish is about blending into a plant room or closet wall rather than matching door hardware.
