Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a wide stile and a narrow stile exit device?
A narrow stile device like the 6400R fits doors with as little as 3-1/8" of stile width, versus a 3-1/2" minimum for wide stile models like the 6300R. Narrow stile doors are typical of aluminum storefront and curtain wall framing.
Is the 6400R rated for fire doors?
Yes. The fire rated version is ETL listed under UL 10C as 3-hour fire exit hardware, covering single doors up to 4' x 10' and door pairs with a mullion up to 8' x 8' (single egress pair).
Should a pair of storefront doors use the 6400R or a vertical rod device?
Use the 6400R when each door can latch independently into a fixed jamb or mullion, since it is a single-point rim latch. If the pair has no mullion and both leaves need top and bottom latching, a vertical rod device such as the 6400V or 6400C is the right choice.
