PDQ 6GW03 Wide Grip Pull Trim, Night Latch

Outside Trim for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series Exit Devices

Exit device trim is the lever, pull, thumb latch or cylinder on the outside of a door with an exit device. It sets what someone outside can do, such as open the door freely, unlock it with a key, or open it only when the bar is locked down. People inside always leave by pushing the bar.

PDQ's 6-prefix trim is built for the 6300 Series (wide stile) and 6400 Series (narrow stile) exit devices. The line covers narrow escutcheon (6N), wide escutcheon (6W), rose lever (6S), thumb latch (6T), grip pull (6G, 6GW), pull plate (6P) and cylinder only (6C) trim, M-suffix versions for the 6300M mortise device, and the electrified 6W99 for access control.

Key Features

  • Built for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series exit devices; the 6N, 6G and 6C also fit the narrow stile 6400 Series, and the 6T fits the 6400R and 6400V
  • Non-handed, with a simple door prep: 2-hole bolt pattern on 7" centers or 4-hole pattern on 7" x 1-3/8" centers
  • Functions include exit only, dummy, night latch, classroom, storeroom and passage, plus electrified storeroom on the 6W99 and 6WM99
  • Lever trims come in Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Orlando, Chicago and Los Angeles styles (6S rose trim: Philadelphia, Boston and Miami)
  • The 6W wide escutcheon covers existing holes when retrofitting a door
  • 6W99 electrified trim locks and unlocks from an access control system on 12 to 24 VDC or VAC, ships fail secure and changes to fail safe in the field
  • Thick door options for 2-1/2" to 2-3/4" doors or doors up to 3" (not on 6300M trim), and antimicrobial coating on the 6N, 6W, 6T, 6G and 6P

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need outside trim on a panic bar?
Outside trim is only needed when people must open the door from outside. An exit-only door can go without trim or use a blank or exit only function such as the 6N or 6P in function 01. If staff need key entry with no handle, the 6C cylinder only trim adds a key on the night latch function.

Which 6-prefix trim fits the 6300 and 6400 Series?
The 6300 Series takes the 6N, 6W, 6S, 6T, 6G, 6P and 6C, plus the electrified 6W99. The narrow stile 6400 Series takes the 6N, 6T, 6G and 6C, but the 6T does not fit the 6400C. M-suffix trims (6NM, 6WM, 6GM, 6GWM, 6CM) are for the 6300M mortise device.

What is the difference between the 6N and 6W trim?
The 6N is a narrow escutcheon sized for slim door stiles and fits both 6300 and 6400 devices. The 6W uses a wider escutcheon plate for wide stile 6300 devices and can cover existing holes on a retrofit.

PDQ 6GW03613E – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ 6GW03 grip pull trim work on a PDQ 6400 narrow stile exit device?
The 6G grip pull family fits both the 6300 Series (wide stile) and the narrow stile 6400 Series. The 6GW03 is the wide grip pull version in night latch function. For a mortise 6300M device you need the M-suffix trim instead (6GWM), not the 6GW.
2) What does the 03 night latch function on PDQ exit device trim actually do?
Night latch means the outside grip pull is rigid and will not retract the latch on its own. A key in the cylinder is what lets someone in from the outside. Push the bar from inside and you always get out. It is the function to use when you want key-only entry but still want a pull on the door face.
3) Do I have to order the cylinder separately for the 6GW03 night latch trim?
The cylinder is chosen as part of the order. Options run from a conventional cylinder (the default) to less cylinder, SFIC preps (SF6 6-pin core, SF7 7-pin core, SFL less core, SFC construction core, SFP plastic construction core) and Schlage LFIC preps (LF6 with Schlage core, LFL less core, LFC construction core). Since the night latch function depends on key entry, pick the prep that matches the core your building already uses.
4) Can I get PDQ 6GW03 trim keyed into my existing master key system?
Yes, keyway and keying are both specified on the order. Keyways cover Schlage C (the conventional default), Schlage E and C-K, PDQ Restricted TA, Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1 / 60 / L4, Russwin D1 and 981, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset, the full BEST SFIC range A through TE, and three PDQ exclusive SFIC keyways. Keying is KD keyed different, KA keyed alike, or KO zero bitted for field pinning.
5) What door prep does PDQ 6GW grip pull trim need, and is it handed?
Non-handed, so one part covers left and right openings. The prep is a 2-hole bolt pattern on 7 inch centers, or a 4-hole pattern on 7 inch by 1-3/8 inch centers.
6) Should I use a grip pull or a lever trim on my exit device?
A grip pull like the 6GW03 gives a fixed handle with key-only entry, which suits service and back-of-house doors where you do not want anyone opening it without a key. If people need to walk in by turning a handle, go to lever trim: 6W wide escutcheon for wide stile 6300 devices, 6N narrow escutcheon for slim stiles and 6400 devices, or 6S rose lever. For a door nobody enters from outside, a 6P pull plate or 6N in function 01 exit only is enough, and 6C cylinder only adds a key with no handle at all.
7) What finishes does the PDQ 6GW03 come in, and can I get it for an exterior door?
Three finishes: 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 flat black, and 630 satin stainless steel. The weatherized finish option is available on 630 (and 626), so a satin stainless 6GW03 is the one to order for an exposed exterior opening. Antimicrobial coating on tactile surfaces is also a 626/630 option, which is the pick for healthcare corridors.
8) I'm retrofitting a door with existing trim holes. Is the 6GW the right PDQ trim?
Not necessarily. If you are covering old holes, the 6W wide escutcheon plate is the trim built to hide existing prep on a wide stile 6300 retrofit. The 6GW is a wide grip pull, so it covers what its own 7 inch (or 7 x 1-3/8 inch) bolt pattern reaches and no more.
9) How do I write the part number for a PDQ 6GW03 in flat black?
Finish code goes on the end of the model number: 6GW03622 is the flat black wide grip pull night latch trim. Dark oxidized satin bronze is 6GW03613E and satin stainless is 6GW03630. Cylinder, keyway, keying and any thick door or coating options are specified alongside.
10) Is the PDQ 6GW03 trim suitable for a commercial building, or is it residential grade?
It is commercial door hardware, built as outside trim for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series panic devices. You would not find it on a house door.
