PDQ GT124 Grade 1 Exit Cylindrical Lever Lock

Grade 1 Heavy Duty Commercial Cylindrical Lock

The PDQ GT124 is the Exit function (ANSI/BHMA F89) of the PDQ GT Series Grade 1 Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ GT Series is a Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical lock certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2. PDQ positions it as its general purpose Grade 1 lock for everyday commercial exterior and interior openings, with lever torque resistance of 2,200 lbf-in, three times the BHMA/ANSI standard, and cycle testing to over 3 times BHMA standards.

A heavy duty diecast chassis, machined billet steel spindles and a 13 gauge steel anti-rotation plate on the secure side give the lock its strength. A 2:1 latchbolt throw allows a 41 degree lever rotation, which reduces torque and extends the life of the lock. The GT is non-handed, assembled in Lancaster, PA, and offered in Philadelphia, Boston and Miami lever styles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the GT strong enough for a busy school or office building, or is the XGT needed?
The GT handles standard to heavy commercial traffic and covers most exterior and interior doors in schools, offices and retail buildings. PDQ reserves the XGT, rated to 3,000 lbf-in of torque resistance, for openings facing extreme abuse or vandalism.

Is the GT fire rated and ADA compliant?
Yes. The GT is UL 10C listed for 3 hour fire doors (single doors up to 4' x 8') and complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1.

Can the GT be used on hurricane rated openings in Florida?
Yes. It is approved for Florida HVHZ installations under PDQ Product Approval FL 21376, with a design load rating of +/- 70.0 PSF on a 3' x 7' single door.

PDQ GT124BSN626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Exit function on the PDQ GT124 actually do - is there a key or a lock on it?
The GT124 is the Exit function (ANSI/BHMA F89) of PDQ's GT Series cylindrical lock, and it is non-keyed. There is no cylinder and no locking: the outside has a blank plate or no trim operation, and the inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. Use it on stair discharge doors, corridor doors and any opening where you need the door latched but never locked. If you need keyed control, the GT124 is the wrong function in the family.
2) Will the PDQ GT124 fit a 1-3/4 inch door with an existing 161 cylindrical prep?
Yes. The GT124 drops into the standard ANSI A156.115 (161) cylindrical prep and covers doors from 1-3/4 inches up to 2-1/4 inches thick, shipped preset for 1-3/4 inches. It mounts with through-door thru-bolting, and the 3-3/8 inch diameter rose with concealed screws will cover a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore. Standard backset is 2-3/4 inches, with 2-3/8 inches available if your existing prep is bored for it.
3) Does the latch throw on the GT124 change if I order the 2-3/8 inch backset?
It does. With the 2-3/4 inch backset the deadlocking latch throws 9/16 inch and the faceplate is 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inches. Order the 2-3/8 inch backset and you get a 1/2 inch throw with a 2-1/4 x 1 inch faceplate. The face is beveled 1/8 inch in 2 inches. If you are reusing an existing frame strike, the shallower 1/2 inch throw is worth checking against your strike pocket depth.
4) Can the PDQ GT124 go on a 3-hour fire rated door?
Yes. The GT Series is UL 10C listed for 3 hour fire doors on single doors up to 4 feet by 8 feet, and the exit function latches the door, which is what a fire assembly requires. A dust box (DB) is available if your fire door frame detail calls for one.
5) Do I need to order the GT124 left hand or right hand?
No handing to specify. The GT Series cylindrical lock is non-handed, so one part number works on a left or right hand door, inswing or outswing. That is the main reason property managers standardize on it across a building - one stocked lock covers every opening.
6) Is the GT124 ADA compliant for a school or healthcare corridor?
It is. The GT lock complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1, and the lever handle satisfies the no-tight-grasping requirement. The 41 degree lever rotation at the 2-3/4 inch backset keeps operating effort low, which matters on doors used thousands of times a day. Tactile abrasive coating is available inside only, outside only, or both sides if your spec calls for a hazard warning surface.
7) Is the PDQ GT tough enough for a high school corridor, or should I spec the XGT?
The GT handles standard to heavy commercial traffic and covers most interior and exterior openings in schools, offices and retail. It is Grade 1 to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 with 2,200 lbf-in of lever torque resistance, three times the standard, a diecast chassis, billet steel spindles and a 13 gauge steel anti-rotation plate on the secure side. PDQ reserves the XGT, rated to 3,000 lbf-in, for openings facing extreme abuse or deliberate vandalism.
8) Which strike comes with the GT124 and can I get a T-strike for a wood frame?
ASA strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches, is standard. Two alternatives are selectable at order: a T-strike at 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 inches, which is the usual choice for wood frames and existing wood jamb preps, or a full lip strike at 1-5/8 x 2-1/4 inches. Strikes are stainless steel or wrought brass. Add the dust box if the frame needs one.
9) What lever styles and finishes can I get on the PDQ GT124?
Three lever styles - Philadelphia, Boston and Miami, all solid diecast - each in seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Part numbers run GT124 plus the lever code plus the finish, for example GT124PHL605 for a Philadelphia lever in bright brass. If you need the outside trim to match a storefront and the inside to match the corridor, the split finish option (SF) does that; designate outside trim first, then inside.
10) Can the PDQ GT exit lock be used on a Florida hurricane rated opening?
Yes. The GT is approved for Florida HVHZ under PDQ Product Approval FL 21376, with a design load of plus or minus 70.0 PSF on a 3 by 7 foot single door. For a coastal exterior door, the weatherized finish option is also worth specifying, though it is only offered on 626 satin chrome.
11) Can the GT124 be ordered with request-to-exit monitoring for an access control system?
Yes. REX (request to exit) is an available option on the GT, and an industry standard Molex connector (ISMC) can be specified so the lock plugs into the harness your integrator is already running. The lock itself is mechanical, not electronic, so REX is a monitoring signal off the inside lever rather than electrified locking. If you need the door to lock and unlock electrically, the GT124 exit function is not the right choice.
12) Will the GT124 work on a pair of doors?
For double doors PDQ uses a 2-3/4 inch latch that gives 65 degree lever rotation, against the 41 degree rotation of the standard 2-3/4 inch backset setup. Specify that when the lock is going on a pair, and pick your strike to suit the inactive leaf condition rather than defaulting to the ASA strike.
13) Is there an option for an x-ray room or an infection control area?
Two options cover those. A lead-lined rose (LL) is available for x-ray and imaging room doors, and an antimicrobial coating (AM) can be applied to the full lever set including inside and outside lever and rose, but only in the 626 satin chrome finish. Both are selected at order time on the GT124.
