PDQ XGT124 Grade 1 Exit Cylindrical Lever Lock

Grade 1 Extra Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock

The PDQ XGT124 is the Exit function (ANSI/BHMA F89) of the PDQ XGT Series Grade 1 Extra Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ XGT Series is an extra heavy duty cylindrical lock certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1 and cycle tested to over 3 times the BHMA standard. A 2:1 latch bolt throw allows a 41 degree lever rotation with the 2-3/4" backset, which reduces torque and lengthens the life of the lock.

XGT is the step up from the GT Series for doors that face heavy abuse, with 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque resistance and a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate. It is assembled in Lancaster, PA.

Key Features

  • Heavy duty diecast chassis with investment cast, cold rolled steel and stainless steel mechanism
  • 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate for added stability
  • 3,000 lbf-in lever torque resistance, about 4 times the ANSI/BHMA standard
  • Solid diecast Philadelphia, Boston or Miami levers on 3-3/8" wrought brass roses with concealed screws
  • Non-handed; fits doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick with through-bolted mounting and a standard ANSI A156.115 (161) prep
  • Keyed functions take a Schlage C compatible conventional cylinder, small format IC cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow, or Schlage large format IC cores (Philadelphia lever only)
  • UL 10C listed for 3-hour fire doors, single doors up to 4' x 8', and approved for the Florida High Velocity Hurricane Zone

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the PDQ XGT and GT cylindrical locks?
Both are ANSI/BHMA Grade 1. XGT is rated for 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque resistance, about 4 times the ANSI/BHMA standard, versus 2,200 lbf-in for GT. XGT also uses a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate and is cycle tested to over 3 times BHMA standards.

Is the XGT lock fire rated?
Yes. XGT is UL listed for 3-hour fire doors on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0", meeting UL 10C requirements.

What door thicknesses and backsets fit the XGT lock?
XGT fits doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick (preset for 1-3/4") with a 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" backset, and it is non-handed, so one unit installs on any door hand.

PDQ XGT124BSN626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Exit function mean on the PDQ XGT124 lever lock?
The XGT124 is the ANSI/BHMA F89 Exit function, which means it is non-keyed: both levers are always free, there is no cylinder and no locking. It latches the door shut but never secures it. Use it where you need a latching lever on a door that must always open from both sides, like a stairwell discharge or a corridor pass-through that also carries separate locking hardware. If you need to lock the opening, the XGT124 is the wrong function.
2) Will the PDQ XGT124 fit a 2-inch thick door?
Yes. The XGT124 covers doors from 1-3/4 inch up to 2-1/4 inch thick and ships preset for 1-3/4 inch, so a 2 inch door is inside the range with no special order. Mounting is through-bolted and the prep is the standard ANSI A156.115 (161) cylindrical prep.
3) Do I need to order the PDQ XGT124 handed for a left or right door?
No. The XGT124 is non-handed, so one unit installs on a left or right hand door, inswing or outswing. That makes it easy to stock a single part number across a building instead of tracking handing per opening.
4) Will the PDQ XGT124 latch into my existing strike, or do I need to replace it?
Backset decides the latch throw. With the 2-3/4 inch backset you get a 9/16 inch deadlocking latchbolt and a 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inch faceplate; with the 2-3/8 inch backset it is a 1/2 inch throw and a 2-1/4 x 1 inch faceplate. The standard strike is the ASA 1-1/4 x 4-7/8, and a T-Strike at 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 or a Full Lip Strike at 1-5/8 x 2-1/4 can be specified instead. Measure the existing frame cutout and pick the strike to match it rather than re-prepping the frame.
5) Can the PDQ XGT124 go on a fire rated stairwell door?
Yes, the XGT124 is fire rated and UL 10C listed for 3-hour doors on single door openings up to 4 ft by 8 ft. Since the Exit function never locks, it also suits stairwell and egress doors where free operation from both sides is required. For lead-lined openings in imaging suites, the LL lead-lined rose option is available.
6) What do I have to specify when ordering the PDQ XGT124?
Four things drive the part number: lever style (Philadelphia, Boston or Miami), finish, backset, and strike. Finishes are 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Backset is 234 for 2-3/4 inch or 238 for 2-3/8 inch, and strike is ASA, FL full lip, or T-Strike. Optional adders include a dust box (DB), lead-lined rose (LL), split finishes (SF), tactile coating, request to exit (REX), Molex connector (ISMC), antimicrobial coating (626 only) and weatherized finish (626 only). A built-up example reads XGT124PHL605.
7) I need a locking lever, not an exit function. Is the XGT124 still the right PDQ model?
No. The XGT124 has no cylinder and cannot be locked, so if you need to secure the opening you want a keyed XGT function instead. Keyed XGT locks take a Schlage C compatible conventional cylinder, small format interchangeable cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow, or Schlage large format IC cores on the Philadelphia lever only, which matters if you are keying into an existing master system.
8) Is the PDQ XGT124 lever ADA compliant for a school or healthcare corridor?
The XGT124 is ADA compliant and meets ICC/ANSI 117.1. It is a lever handle, so no tight grasping or wrist twisting is needed to operate it, and with the 2-3/4 inch backset the lever only rotates 41 degrees, which cuts the effort further. For visually impaired signalling you can add tactile abrasive coating inside only (TC1IS), outside only (TC1OS), or both sides (TC2).
9) PDQ XGT or GT cylindrical lock for a high-abuse entry?
Both are certified Grade 1 to ANSI/BHMA A156.2, but the XGT is the heavier of the two: 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque resistance versus 2,200 lbf-in on the GT, plus a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate and cycle testing to over 3 times the BHMA standard. For a vandalism-prone exterior entry or a high school corridor, go XGT. On an interior office door with normal traffic the GT is enough lock.
10) Can I get a request to exit signal on the PDQ XGT124 for an access control system?
Yes. REX (request to exit) is an available option on the XGT124, and the ISMC industry standard Molex connector can be specified with it so the switch leads terminate in a connector your integrator already has on the other end. The lock itself is mechanical, not electronic, so the REX switch only reports lever movement, it does not control locking.
11) Will the PDQ XGT124 match the other XGT levers already on my building's doors?
It will, as long as you order the same lever style and finish. The XGT124 uses the same solid diecast Philadelphia, Boston or Miami levers on 3-3/8 inch wrought brass roses with concealed screws as the rest of the XGT Series, and the same 161 cylindrical prep, so it swaps in beside keyed XGT functions without the trim looking different. Split finishes (SF) are available if the corridor side and room side need to differ.
12) Is the PDQ XGT124 approved for coastal Florida exterior doors?
Yes. The XGT Series carries PDQ Product Approval FL 21376 for the Florida High Velocity Hurricane Zone, with a design load of plus or minus 70.0 PSF on a single 3 ft by 7 ft door. For a wet exterior opening, the weatherized finish option is offered in 626 satin chrome only.
13) Does the PDQ XGT124 work on a pair of doors?
The standard setup with the 2-3/4 inch backset gives a 41 degree lever rotation. For double door applications PDQ offers a 2-3/4 inch latch that runs a 65 degree rotation instead, so specify that when the opening is a pair. The UL 3-hour listing, though, is stated for single doors up to 4 ft by 8 ft.
14) Should I add the dust box when ordering a PDQ XGT124 for a hollow metal frame?
The DB dust box option is worth adding on new hollow metal or wood frame prep, since it closes off the latch pocket behind the strike and keeps debris and mortar out of the bolt path. It is not needed if the existing frame already has a dust box or a welded-in strike pocket. The ASA strike supplied as standard measures 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inches.
15) What is the faceplate size on the PDQ XGT124 latch front?
The front measures 2-1/4 by 1-1/8 inches with the 2-3/4 inch backset, dropping to 2-1/4 by 1 inch on the 2-3/8 inch backset. It is stainless steel or wrought brass and beveled 1/8 inch in 2 inches, which matches a standard beveled door edge, so it sits flush on the edge of a typical commercial door without filing.
16) Can I get an antimicrobial lever for a hospital or clinic door?
Yes. The antimicrobial coating option (AM) covers the lever set including inside and outside levers and rose, and it is offered in 626 satin chrome only. If you need it on a patient room or treatment door, plan the whole opening group around 626 so the finish stays consistent.
