It fits standard 160 and 161 door preps with no additional thru-bolt and offers privacy, passage, entrance, storeroom and single dummy functions.

The SF uses a heavy-gauge cold rolled steel chassis, dichromated for corrosion resistance, and shares its levers with the PDQ SD and CL Series for a matching look across a building. It carries a three year limited warranty.

PDQ SF116PHL626D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ SF116 fit my existing 161 door prep without new holes?
Yes. The SF116 cylindrical lever lock drops into a standard 160 or 161 door prep and needs no additional thru-bolt. Doors from 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick are covered, and the lock ships preset for 1-3/4 inch, so a thinner door means adjusting it down at install.
2) What backset latch comes with the keyed SF116 entrance lock?
Keyed functions like the SF116 entrance lock come with a fixed UL fire-rated latch, and you pick the backset when ordering: 238 is a 2-3/8 inch fixed backset with a 1 inch radius-corner or square-corner face, and 234 is a 2-3/4 inch fixed backset with a square corner 1-1/8 inch face. The adjustable 2-3/8 to 2-3/4 inch latch is the standard on non-keyed SF functions, not on this one.
3) Is the SF116 entrance lever lock approved for a fire-rated door?
It is. The SF series is UL/cUL 10C listed for 3 hour fire doors on single doors up to 4 feet by 8 feet, but only when ordered with the UL fixed backset latchbolt. Since the entrance function is keyed, that UL latch is what ships standard, so the fire listing holds as long as you keep one of the three fixed-backset latch choices.
4) Do I need to order left-hand and right-hand versions of the SF116 for my building?
No. The SF116 is non-handed, so one part number covers left and right swing openings. For a property manager stocking spares that means a single lock on the shelf fits any door in the building.
5) Can the PDQ SF116 be keyed into our existing Schlage master key system?
Yes. The SF116 takes a 6-pin brass cylinder keyed to 5 pins with the SCC (Schlage C compatible) keyway as standard, and PDQ will key it into existing master key systems. Keying choices include KD keyed different, keyed alike in 2, 3-4, or 5-plus groups, master keyed, master keyed to existing bittings, construction master keyed, and 0-bitted with two blank keys. Other keyways are available too, including Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1 and 60, Corbin L4, Russwin D1, Schlage E, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset in 5-pin only, and the restricted PDQ TA.
6) Does the SF116 take a small format interchangeable core like Best or Falcon?
It does. SF keyed functions can be ordered with a 6 or 7-pin small format IC core compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow. One catch worth knowing before you spec: SFIC is not available with the Memphis lever, so if you need interchangeable core pick Philadelphia, Boston, Miami or Orlando. You can also order SFIC prep less core, with a construction core, or with a plastic construction core if your locksmith is supplying the cores.
7) Will the strike that comes with the SF116 match my existing frame prep?
Three strikes are offered, so match it to the frame you already have. The Full Lip strike at 1-5/8 by 2-1/4 inches is standard. An ASA strike at 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inches suits hollow metal frames prepped for ASA, and a T-strike at 1-1/8 by 2-3/4 inches suits wood frames with a T prep. The latch front is 1 inch face width with a 1/4 inch radius, and a square corner filler is included to make up a 1-1/8 inch width if your existing mortise is cut that way.
8) Is a Grade 2 lock like the PDQ SF116 enough for apartment entry doors, or should I go Grade 1?
The SF series is an ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 2 standard duty cylindrical lock built for multi-family housing, senior living, student housing and light commercial work. For apartment unit entry doors that is the normal spec. Where it is not the right call is high-traffic public openings, school corridors or anything taking abuse all day, which is Grade 1 territory. PDQ notes the Grade 2 A156.2 certification on the entry function applies with the fixed backset latch.
9) What does the F109 entrance function actually do on the door?
F109 is the ANSI/BHMA entrance function: it is a single cylinder keyed lever lock, so the outside lever is locked and unlocked by key and the inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. That is the standard function for an apartment or tenant unit door. If you want key-locked-at-all-times with no outside lever operation, you want a storeroom function instead; privacy and passage versions of the SF series exist for bathrooms and non-locking doors.
10) Will the SF116 levers match the other PDQ locks already installed in my building?
Yes, if those locks are PDQ SD or CL series. The SF shares its lever designs with both, so a Philadelphia lever on an SF116 unit entry matches a Philadelphia lever on an SD or CL opening down the hall. Five lever styles are available: Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Memphis and Orlando, all solid diecast on wrought brass roses with concealed screws.
11) Does the SF116 lever lock meet ADA requirements for accessible openings?
Yes. The SF series complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1, which is what the lever handle design is there for, no tight grasping or wrist twisting to operate. It is also TAA compliant with country of origin KR, which matters on federal and institutional purchases.
12) How many keys ship with each PDQ SF116 lock, and can I order it without a cylinder?
Each SF116 comes with two keys. If your locksmith is supplying cylinders or cores, order it Less Cylinder, or as SFIC prep less core. Other cylinder choices are the conventional key-in-lever cylinder, SFIC prep with a 6-pin or 7-pin core, or SFIC prep with a brass or plastic construction core. High security cylinders are available as well.
13) What do I have to specify when ordering a PDQ SF116?
Every SF116 order is built from a set of required choices: lever style, finish, rose shape, cylinder type, latch backset for the keyed function, strike, keyway, keying, and whether you want the SF split finish option. Each combination carries its own PDQ part number, for example SF116PHL605D for a Philadelphia lever in 605 bright brass. Come to the order with your door thickness, frame prep and existing key system in hand and it goes quickly.
14) What rose sizes and finishes does the PDQ SF116 come in?
Two rose shapes: a 2-9/16 inch diameter round rose and a 2-15/16 inch square rose, both wrought brass with concealed screws. Finishes run seven deep: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. If you need a different finish inside the unit than in the corridor, there is an SF split finish option on the order.
15) Will the SF116 hold up in a coastal or humid building?
The chassis is heavy-gauge cold rolled steel, dichromated for corrosion resistance, which is the treatment aimed at that kind of exposure. Keep in mind this is a standard duty commercial lock intended for multi-family, senior living, student housing and light commercial interiors rather than a hardened exterior-abuse opening.
