Frequently Asked Questions

Is the SV knob lock ADA compliant?
No. Its round ball knob design does not meet ADA/ICC A117.1 operable-parts requirements for hardware usable without tight grasping or twisting, so it should be limited to applications where knob hardware is code-permitted.

What is the difference between the SV and the SX?
Both are PDQ ball knob cylindrical locks. The SV is Grade 2 certified and is the lower-traffic option, while the SX is Grade 1 for high-traffic doors.

What door prep does the SV fit?
The SV fits standard 161 door prep on doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick with a 2-3/4" or 2-3/8" backset, which makes it a straightforward retrofit for existing knob locksets.

PDQ SV116CQ630D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ SV116 knob lock fit my existing 161 door prep?
Yes. The SV116 fits standard 161 cylindrical door prep on doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick, with a 2-3/4 inch standard backset or 2-3/8 inch optional. That covers both of the usual commercial backsets, so it drops into most existing knob lockset preps without new boring.
2) Is the PDQ SV116 ADA compliant for a public-use door?
No. The SV116 is a ball knob lock, and a round knob does not satisfy ADA/ICC A117.1 operable-parts rules for hardware usable without tight grasping or twisting. Use it only where knob hardware is code-permitted, such as unit-side residential doors or non-public spaces. For an accessible opening you need a lever trim instead.
3) Should I use the PDQ SV or the SX knob lock for a high-traffic door?
Use the SX. Both are PDQ ball knob cylindrical locks, but the SV is the ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 2 standard duty option and suits lower-traffic openings. The SX is Grade 1 and is the one to spec for high-traffic commercial doors like corridors and main entries.
4) Can PDQ SV116 locks be keyed into my existing Schlage C master key system?
Yes. Schlage C (SCC) is the standard keyway on the SV116, and keying options include master keyed to existing bittings, MK, CMK, KD, 0-bitted, and keyed alike in 2, 3-4, or 5-plus groups. Other keyways available include Schlage E and C-K, Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1/60/L4, Russwin D1, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset 5-pin, and restricted PDQ TA. Keyed functions use a brass 6-pin cylinder keyed to 5 pins with two change keys per lock.
5) Will the PDQ SV116 work with a small format interchangeable core system?
Yes. The SV116 can be ordered SFIC prepped with a 6-pin core, a 7-pin core, with a brass or plastic construction core, or less core so you supply your own, as well as conventional key-in-knob or less cylinder. For example, SV116CQ630SF7 is satin stainless with a 7-pin SFIC core; SV116CQ630SFL is the same lock SFIC prepped less core.
6) Which strike comes with the PDQ SV116 and will it fit my frame cutout?
Standard is the ASA strike, 4-7/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch, which matches the common hollow metal frame prep. If your frame is prepped for a smaller plate, order the T-strike at 1-1/8 by 2-3/4 inches or the full lip strike at 1-5/8 by 2-1/4 inches instead. The strike is selected at the time of order.
7) What does the Entrance function on the PDQ SV116 actually do?
The SV116 is ANSI/BHMA F109 Entrance: key outside, and a single cylinder. It is the office/entry style function for a door that needs to be locked from outside with a key and free egress from inside. It is keyed, single cylinder, and non-handed, so it works on either swing without changing anything.
8) What finishes does the PDQ SV116 knob lock come in, and will it match my other doors?
Three finishes: 605 bright brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, and 630 satin stainless steel. All three are available across every cylinder option, so you can standardize a building on one finish and still mix conventional and SFIC locks. Knobs and the 3 inch diameter roses are stainless steel or wrought brass depending on finish.
9) Will the PDQ SV116 latch still work on a beveled door edge?
Yes. The solid brass 1/2 inch throw latchbolt on the SV116 is adjustable for beveled doors, so it can be set for a standard beveled edge without swapping parts. With a 1/2 inch throw it needs a properly aligned strike lip, so check your gap if you are reusing an old frame prep.
10) Is the PDQ SV116 TAA compliant for a government job?
Yes. The SV116 is TAA compliant with country of origin Korea, and it carries ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 2 certification. That combination is what most federal and institutional specs ask for on standard duty cylindrical hardware.
11) Do I need to specify handing when ordering the PDQ SV116?
No. The SV116 is non-handed, so one part number covers left and right hand, inswing or outswing. What you do have to specify on the order is backset, strike, keyway, and keying, plus finish and cylinder type.
