Frequently Asked Questions

Is the SV knob lock ADA compliant?
No. Its round ball knob design does not meet ADA/ICC A117.1 operable-parts requirements for hardware usable without tight grasping or twisting, so it should be limited to applications where knob hardware is code-permitted.

What is the difference between the SV and the SX?
Both are PDQ ball knob cylindrical locks. The SV is Grade 2 certified and is the lower-traffic option, while the SX is Grade 1 for high-traffic doors.

What door prep does the SV fit?
The SV fits standard 161 door prep on doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick with a 2-3/4" or 2-3/8" backset, which makes it a straightforward retrofit for existing knob locksets.

PDQ SV115CQ630D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ SV115 fit my existing 161 door prep?
Yes. The SV115 storeroom knob lock drops into standard 161 cylindrical prep on doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick, with either a 2-3/4 inch backset (standard) or 2-3/8 inch. That covers the overwhelming majority of existing commercial knob locksets, so it is a straight retrofit on most doors with no new boring. You pick the backset and matching faceplate when you order: 234, 234F, 234FR for 2-3/4 inch, or 238F, 238, 238R for 2-3/8 inch.
2) What does the storeroom function on the PDQ SV115 actually do?
It is ANSI/BHMA F86 storeroom: the outside knob is always fixed and requires a key to retract the latch, while the inside knob always allows free egress. The latch cannot be left unlocked, so the door locks behind every person who passes through. That is what you want on supply rooms, electrical and mechanical closets, and janitor closets. If you need staff to be able to leave the door unlocked during the day, storeroom is the wrong function.
3) Can I use the SV115 knob lock on a door that has to meet ADA?
No. The SV115 uses a round ball knob, which does not satisfy ADA / ICC A117.1 operable-parts requirements for hardware usable without tight grasping or twisting. Keep knobs to openings where code permits them, and specify a lever lockset for accessible routes and public-use doors.
4) Can the PDQ SV115 be keyed into the master key system I already have?
Yes. Keyed functions use a brass 6-pin cylinder keyed to 5 pins, and the SV115 can be keyed into existing master key systems. Schlage C (SCC) is the standard keyway, and you can also order Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1 / 60 / L4, Russwin D1, Schlage E and C-K, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset (5-pin only), or restricted PDQ TA. Keying options are KD, OB (0-bitted with 2 blank keys), KA2, KA4, KA, MK, master keyed to existing bittings, or CMK. Each lock ships with two change keys.
5) Can I order the SV115 prepped for small format interchangeable core instead of a conventional cylinder?
Yes. Besides the conventional key-in-knob cylinder, the SV115 is offered as SFIC prep with a 6-pin core, SFIC prep with a 7-pin core, SFIC prep less core (you supply your own cores), SFIC prep with a brass construction core, SFIC prep with a plastic construction core, or less cylinder entirely. For example SV115CQ630SF7 is satin stainless with a 7-pin SFIC core. Less cylinder and SFIC-less-core are the usual picks when a facility pins its own cores.
6) Will the SV115 latch into the strike plate already in my frame?
The latchbolt is a solid brass 1/2 inch throw unit, adjustable for beveled doors. The standard strike supplied is an ASA 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inch, which is what most commercial hollow metal frames are prepped for, so it typically reuses the existing cutout. If your frame has a smaller prep, order the T-Strike at 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 inches or the FL full lip strike at 1-5/8 x 2-1/4 inches instead.
7) What do I have to specify when ordering a PDQ SV115 so it arrives correct?
Five choices beyond the base model. Finish (605, 613E, 630); cylinder (conventional, less cylinder, or one of the SFIC preps); backset and faceplate (234, 234F, 234FR for 2-3/4 inch; 238F, 238, 238R for 2-3/8 inch); strike (ASA, T-Strike, or full lip); keyway (SCC Schlage C standard, or another manufacturer's keyway); and keying (KD, OB, KA2, KA4, KA, MK, master keyed to existing bittings, or CMK). Knob style is ball knob, code CQ, which is how a part number reads: SV115CQ605D.
8) Should I buy the Grade 2 SV series or the Grade 1 SX for my building?
Both PDQ lines are ball knob cylindrical locks on the same 161 prep. The SV is Grade 2, standard duty, for lower-traffic openings: storage rooms, closets, back-of-house doors someone opens a few times a day. The SX is Grade 1 and belongs on high-traffic doors like corridors, restrooms and entrances. If the door cycles constantly, spend the money on the SX; for a locked supply room, the SV115 is the right duty level.
9) Do I need to specify left or right hand for the PDQ SV115?
No handing to call out. The SV115 is non-handed, so one lock works on a left or right hand door swinging either direction. The latchbolt is adjustable for beveled doors, which is the only field adjustment you make at install.
10) What finishes does the PDQ SV115 come in, and will it match the knobs already in my building?
Three finishes: 605 bright brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, and 630 satin stainless steel. Knobs and the 3 inch diameter wrought roses are stainless steel or wrought brass depending on finish. 630 satin stainless is the common match for commercial US32D-style hardware; 605 is polished brass; 613E is the dark bronze. All three are available across every cylinder option, so you can standardize a whole facility on one finish and vary only the keying.
11) Is the PDQ SV series TAA compliant for a government or federal job?
Yes, the SV115 is TAA compliant, with country of origin Korea (KR). That makes it usable on federal and government-funded procurement where TAA sourcing is required, alongside its ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 2 certification and UL/cUL 10C 3-hour fire listing.
12) Can I put the SV115 on an exterior entrance door?
It is a commercial-rated lock, but the SV series is Grade 2 standard duty and the storeroom function keys from the outside with no way to leave it unlocked. For a main entrance that sees constant traffic, the Grade 1 PDQ SX is the better duty level, and a lever rather than a ball knob is required on any accessible entrance. The SV115 is best suited to interior secured rooms on commercial doors.
