PDQ SF115PHL626D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ SF115 storeroom lever fit a standard 161 door prep on a 1-3/4 inch door?
Yes. The SF115 drops into standard 160 and 161 bored preps with no additional thru-bolt, and it covers doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick, preset at the factory for 1-3/4 inch. Backset is 2-3/8 inch standard, with a fixed 2-3/4 inch UL latch also available on keyed functions. The lock is non-handed, so one part works on either hand of door.
2) What does the storeroom function on the PDQ SF115 actually do at the door?
Storeroom function, ANSI/BHMA F86: the outside lever is always locked and requires the key every time, while the inside lever is always free for egress. There is no thumbturn or button to leave it unlocked, which is why it is used on storage rooms, electrical and mechanical closets, and janitor closets where the door must never be left on passage. Keyed with a single cylinder.
3) Can the PDQ SF115 go on a 3-hour fire rated storeroom door?
Yes, within limits. The SF is UL/cUL 10C listed for 3-hour fire doors on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0", and the listing applies only when the lock is ordered with the UL fixed backset latchbolt. On keyed functions like the SF115 that fixed UL latch is standard, so order the 238, 238R or 234 latch and you are inside the listing. The adjustable latch is not the fire-rated one.
4) Can PDQ SF115 locks be keyed into our existing Schlage master key system?
Yes. SCC (Schlage C compatible) is the standard keyway, and PDQ will key the locks into an existing master key system. Keying choices run KD keyed different, 0-bitted, KA2, KA4, KA for five or more alike, MK master keyed, master keyed to existing bittings, and CMK construction master keyed. If your building is not on Schlage C, other keyways are available including Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1 and 60, Corbin L4, Russwin D1, Schlage E and C-K, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset in 5-pin only, and the restricted PDQ TA. Two keys come per lock.
5) Does the PDQ SF115 take a small format interchangeable core so we can pin our own cores?
Yes. The SF accepts a 6 or 7-pin small format IC core compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow, and you can order it SFIC prep with a 6-pin core, 7-pin core, less core, with a construction core, or with a plastic construction core. One restriction: SFIC is not available with the Memphis lever. If you want a conventional cylinder instead, that is a 6-pin brass insert keyed to 5 pins, or order it less cylinder.
6) Which strike should I order with the PDQ SF115 for my existing frame?
Three strikes are offered and the frame prep decides it. A hollow metal frame with ASA prep takes the ASA strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches. A wood frame or T-prep takes the T-strike, 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 inches. Standard on the lock is the full lip strike, 1-5/8 x 2-1/4 inches. The latch front is 1 inch face width with a 1/4 inch radius, and a square corner filler is included to fill out a 1-1/8 inch wide prep.
7) Is a Grade 2 lock like the PDQ SF115 enough for apartment storage and mechanical rooms, or do I need Grade 1?
The SF is ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 2 standard duty, built for multi-family housing, senior living, student housing and light commercial work. That suits apartment storage, closets and back-of-house doors in residential buildings. For a high-traffic entrance or an abused public opening in a school or hospital corridor, a Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical lock is the better call. Chassis here is heavy-gauge cold rolled steel, dichromated for corrosion resistance.
8) Will PDQ SF115 storeroom locks match the lever style on the rest of my building's doors?
If the other openings are PDQ, yes. The SF shares its levers with the PDQ SD and CL Series, so a storeroom door on an SF115 looks the same as a passage or classroom door running SD or CL trim. Five lever styles are offered (Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Memphis, Orlando) on either a 2-9/16 inch round rose or a 2-15/16 inch square rose, wrought brass with concealed screws.
9) Does the PDQ SF115 lever meet ADA requirements for an accessible opening?
Yes. The SF Series complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1, and the lever handle itself is the operable part that satisfies the no-tight-grasping requirement. It is also TAA compliant, country of origin KR, which matters on federal and institutional specs.
10) What do I have to specify when ordering a PDQ SF115, beyond finish?
Every SF115 order needs lever style, rose style (round or square), finish, cylinder type, plus four required selections: latch (238 fixed 2-3/8 inch UL with 1 inch square corner face, 238R the radius corner version, or 234 fixed 2-3/4 inch UL with 1-1/8 inch face), strike, keyway, and keying. There is also an option field for split finishes. Each combination carries its own PDQ part number, for example SF115PHL605D.
11) What finishes does the PDQ SF115 come in, and can I mix inside and outside?
Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome. Split finishes are available as the SF option, which lets the corridor side and the room side be different, handy when a storeroom opens off a finished lobby.
12) Is the PDQ SF115 an electrified or access-control lock?
No. The SF115 is purely mechanical, key operated with a single cylinder. There is no electrified option, no card reader and no wiring, so it needs no power, no door loop and no hinge prep for transfer. For an access-controlled storeroom you need an electrified or standalone electronic lock instead.
