1) Will the PDQ SX115 fit an existing 161 door prep without drilling?
Yes. The SX115 storeroom knob lock is built for standard 160 or 161 cylindrical prep and takes either a 2-3/4 inch or 2-3/8 inch backset, so it drops into most existing commercial knob-lock cutouts. Door thickness range is 1-3/8 to 2 inches, which covers both older 1-3/8 inch interior doors and standard 1-3/4 inch commercial doors. The lock is non-handed, so one part works on left or right swings.
2) What does the storeroom function on the PDQ SX115 actually do?
Storeroom function (ANSI/BHMA F86) means the outside knob is always locked and retracts the latch only by key. The inside knob is always free for exit, and the door relocks every time it closes. There is no way to leave it unlocked, which is why it suits storage rooms, mechanical rooms and electrical closets. It is a single-cylinder keyed lock, so there is no key or thumbturn on the inside.
