Pro-Lok AO-36 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Pro-Lok AO-36 long reach tool used for?
The Pro-Lok AO-36 is a multi-car opening tool used to reach inside a vehicle and manipulate the lock once an entry gap has been made at the window. It's a long reach tool built for under-window work and set up as a slide lock tool, so it's aimed at locks you operate by sliding or pulling rather than pressing a button straight down.
2) Will the AO-36 work on a vehicle with a post-style lock button instead of a slide lock?
The AO-36 is set up as a slide lock tool, so it's the right pick for slider and pull-type lock controls. For a vertical post button or a horizontal rocker switch you want a car opening tool with a tip shaped for that control, not this one.
3) Which model do I order for the Pro-Lok under window X-Long MCOT?
There is one model to order, AO-36. The X-Long multi-car opening tool is sold as a single configuration, so there is no length, finish, or tip option to specify on the order.
4) Why choose an extra-long under window car opening tool over a standard length one?
Reach. An extra-long multi-car opening tool gets you across to a far side lock control or down to a control set low on the door panel, which a standard tool won't reach once you're working through a narrow gap at the top of the window. The trade is handling: more length means more flex and less feel at the tip, so for a near-side control sitting right below the glass a shorter tool is easier to control.
5) Is the Pro-Lok AO-36 meant for professional locksmiths or for general consumer use?
It's classed as commercial gear, intended for locksmiths, roadside service, repo, and fleet technicians who open vehicles as part of the job. It is not a general-purpose door hardware item.
