That's exactly the prep it's cut for. The Pro-Lok wrap plate is bored 2-1/8 inches with a 2-3/8 inch backset, which is the standard residential prep for a key-in-knob lock or a deadbolt. If your existing lock sits on a 2-3/4 inch backset, the holes won't line up and this plate won't work on that door.

That's the main use for it. The Pro-Lok wrap around plate wraps the door edge and covers the lock area on both faces, reinforcing split or chewed-up wood and spreading force away from the bore. It repairs, reinforces and protects wood or metal doors against forced entry. The 4 x 9 inch plate covers a single bore area, so it works where the damage is around the knob or deadbolt hole, not where the whole stile has broken apart.

Both. It's compatible with key-in-knob locksets and with deadbolts, since the 2-1/8 inch bore matches the standard cross-bore for either. On a door with both a knob and a separate deadbolt, this single 4 x 9 inch plate covers one of the two, not both.

It works on either. Pro-Lok lists this stainless wrap around plate for wood or metal doors, and it's rated for residential, commercial or industrial use. The limiting factor isn't the door material, it's the prep: 1-3/8 inch thickness, 2-1/8 inch bore, 2-3/8 inch backset.

You reuse it. The wrap plate slips over the door edge and the lock reinstalls through the plate's 2-1/8 inch bore, so the same key-in-knob set or deadbolt goes back in as long as it's on a 2-3/8 inch backset. Plan on the lock mounting screws having to reach through the added plate thickness.

Stainless steel is the finish offered here, and the plate itself is stainless steel construction. Pro-Lok also produces this wrap plate in a duronodic (dark bronze) finish if you're matching darker trim on the rest of the building.
