1) Will the Pro-Lok wrap plate fit my door if the lock has a 2-3/8 inch backset?
No. The Pro-Lok wrap around plate is bored for a 2-3/4 inch backset with a 2-1/8 inch bore hole, so the hole will not line up on a door prepped at 2-3/8 inches. Measure from the door edge to the center of the existing bore before ordering. 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 are the two standard backsets, and this plate only covers the 2-3/4 version.
2) Can I use this wrap plate to repair a door that was kicked in around the lock?
That is exactly what it is for. The stainless steel wrap around plate repairs, reinforces and protects wood or metal doors from forced entry by clamping over both faces and the edge of the door. It covers a 5 inch by 12 inch area around the lock bore, which spans the damaged zone on most kick-in repairs.
3) Does the Pro-Lok wrap plate work with a deadbolt or only a knob lock?
Both. The single 2-1/8 inch bore accepts a key-in-knob lockset or a deadbolt, as long as the lock sits at a 2-3/4 inch backset. If your door has both a knob and a separate deadbolt, this single-bore plate only covers one of them.
4) Is a wrap around plate the right fix, or should I replace the whole door?
For a door with splitting or a chewed-out lock bore, the wrap plate is the cheaper route: it sandwiches the stile and reinforces the area around the lock rather than requiring a new slab. It suits wood or metal doors and is used in residential, commercial and industrial settings. If the door is cracked well outside the 5 x 12 inch coverage area, or the frame and jamb took the damage instead, a plate will not solve it.
5) Do I have to remove the lock to install this wrap plate?
Yes. The plate slips over the door edge and the lock passes through the 2-1/8 inch bore in the plate, so the knob or deadbolt has to come out first and then reinstall through the plate. That also means your lock spindle and mounting screws need to reach through the added plate thickness on both faces of the 1-3/4 inch door.
6) Will this wrap plate work on a hollow metal door, or just wood?
Both. The stainless wrap around guard is rated for wood or metal doors. On a hollow metal door it adds face reinforcement around the lock bore where the skin tends to deform under a pry attack.
