1) Will the Prodatakey Red keypad reader work with the 125 kHz prox cards we already issue, or do we have to reissue credentials?
Keep the cards you have. The Red keypad reader reads both 125 kHz proximity and 13.56 MHz high-security credentials, so an existing prox population keeps working while you phase in secure cards on the same reader. High-security side uses MiFare DESFire EV2 encryption. That is the point of the dual-frequency design: you migrate credentials on your own schedule instead of swapping every reader and every card in one weekend.
2) Can I wire a Prodatakey Red reader into my existing Wiegand access panel, or does it need OSDP?
Either one. The Red keypad reader outputs both OSDP and Wiegand protocol, so it drops onto legacy Wiegand panel inputs as well as OSDP controllers. On Wiegand the supported cable distance is 500 feet using 22 AWG. OSDP is the reason to consider rewiring: it is multi-drop, so several readers share one cable run instead of a home run per reader.
3) Can a Prodatakey Red keypad reader be mounted outdoors on an exterior door?
Yes. It carries an IP55 protection rating and an operating range of -31 to +150 F (-35 to +66 C), with 0 to 95 percent non-condensing humidity. That covers an exposed exterior entry, a parking structure, or an unconditioned loading dock in most North American climates. IP55 is dust-protected and rated against low-pressure water jets, so rain and washdown spray are fine; submersion is not.
4) How much power do I need to budget per Prodatakey Red keypad reader?
Figure 143 mA average and 193 mA peak at 5 to 16V DC. On a 12V supply that is roughly a fifth of an amp worst case per reader, so a 2 amp supply covers about ten of them with headroom for the locks on a separate circuit. Prodatakey recommends a linear power supply rather than a switching one, which matters on long runs where switching noise gets into the read circuit.
5) What size electrical box does the Prodatakey Red keypad reader mount to?
It is a single-gang reader measuring 3.25 x 5.1 x 0.71 inches. Standard single-gang mullion or wall prep, and the 0.71 inch depth means it sits nearly flush against the frame or wall without a spacer.
6) Do I need a keypad reader or will a card-only reader do for my tenant entries?
Go keypad when you need a PIN as a second factor, or when you need to let someone in without issuing a physical credential. The Red keypad model reads 125 kHz prox and 13.56 MHz high-security cards and adds the keypad on the same single-gang plate, so card-only, PIN-only, and card-plus-PIN are all handled by one device. If every user at that door will carry a credential and you do not want PIN management, a card-only reader is the simpler order.
7) How far can I mount the Prodatakey Red reader from the panel?
On Wiegand, 500 feet with 22 AWG cable. Past that you want OSDP, which is multi-drop and lets you daisy-chain multiple readers on a single home run rather than pulling a dedicated cable to each opening. On retrofits in occupied buildings that difference usually decides the wiring method before the reader choice does.
8) What is the part number for the Prodatakey Red keypad reader, and is it a standalone lock?
