Prodatakey Multi-Technology, High-Security (13.56 MHz), Prox (125khz), OSDP, Wiegand, Red Single-Gang Reader

Red readers are in a class of their own, with OSDP secure connectivity, high (13.56MHz) and low-frequency (125 kHz) communication, and mobile-ready options. Red readers are now one of the most secure and versatile readers on the market today, handling every application, from your daily install to the most secure implementation.

Features:

  • Standard technologies include proximity (125 kHz) and high-security (13.56 MHz), so customers can set their migration path to secure credentials and security ecosystems.
  • OSDP Multi-drop accommodates many readers by running one length of cable, eliminating the need to run wire for each reader.
  • Powered by pdk.io, the only true cloud access solution. Take advantage of real-time updates, cloud backup, 24-hour support, and more.

Prodatakey RGP – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDK Red single-gang reader mount on a standard single-gang box or a narrow door mullion?
The PDK Red reader is a single-gang form factor measuring 3.25 x 5.1 x 0.71 inches, so it lands on a standard single-gang backbox or flat wall surface. At 3.25 inches across one dimension it is too wide for a typical narrow aluminum storefront mullion, so for glass front openings with a narrow stile you want a mullion-style reader instead.
2) Does the PDK Red reader read both 125 kHz prox cards and 13.56 MHz secure credentials?
Both. The Red reader handles 125 kHz proximity and 13.56 MHz high-security credentials in the same unit, with MIFARE DESFire EV2 encryption on the high-frequency side. That is what lets a building keep its existing prox cards in service while issuing new encrypted credentials, then retire the old ones on your own schedule. Prox read range is up to 4 inches.
3) Can I use this reader with a non-PDK access control panel over Wiegand?
Yes. The Red reader outputs both OSDP and Wiegand protocol, so it will wire into a third-party controller that takes standard Wiegand data lines. Run it on OSDP where the panel supports it for encrypted, two-way communication. The reader is part of the PDK ecosystem powered by pdk.io, but the Wiegand output keeps it usable on legacy panels.
4) How far can I run cable from the panel to the PDK Red reader?
On Wiegand, the run is rated to 500 feet using 22 AWG. On OSDP the reader supports multi-drop, meaning several readers share one cable run back to the panel instead of a home run per reader, which is usually the deciding factor on a large corridor or a multi-door install.
5) What power supply do I need for a PDK Red reader, and how much current does it draw?
Feed it 5 to 16V DC, so a standard 12V DC access control supply works. Draw is 118 mA average and 169 mA peak, which is what you size the shared supply from when you are hanging several readers off one panel. A linear power supply is recommended over a switching supply to keep noise off the read circuit.
6) Can the PDK Red reader be mounted outdoors on an exterior door?
Outdoor mounting is within its ratings. The reader carries an IP55 protection rating, operates from -31 to +150 F (-35 to +66 C), and tolerates 0 to 95 percent non-condensing humidity. IP55 means protection against dust and low-pressure water jets, so a sheltered exterior wall or a gate pedestal is fine; it is not rated for submersion.
7) What is the part number for the PDK red single-gang multi-technology reader?
Order it as Prodatakey model RGP, manufacturer part number AHDS30RVFD. That is the single-gang body; PDK's Red line also comes in other form factors, so the RGP designation is what distinguishes the single-gang version when you are quoting it.
8) Is this a standalone reader or does it need a controller?
It is a hardwired reader, not a standalone lock controller. It has to report to an access control panel over OSDP or Wiegand, and in the PDK ecosystem that means a PDK controller managed through pdk.io. Budget for the controller, power supply, door lock hardware, and request-to-exit device separately.
9) Should I wire PDK Red readers on OSDP or Wiegand?
OSDP if the panel supports it. It gives you encrypted, supervised two-way communication and multi-drop wiring so one cable run serves multiple readers, which cuts labor on a retrofit where pulling a home run per door is the expensive part. Use Wiegand when you are tying into an older panel that only speaks Wiegand; that path is good for 500 feet on 22 AWG but is one-way and unencrypted on the wire.
