1) Will the Prodatakey mullion reader fit on a narrow aluminum door frame mullion?
Yes. The Prodatakey metal mullion reader measures 4.05 x 1.88 x 0.86 inches, so the narrow face mounts on a standard aluminum storefront mullion without overhanging onto the glass stop. It is the mullion-format version of the rugged reader line, meant for exactly that vertical strip mounting.
2) Does the Prodatakey mullion reader work with our existing HID 125 kHz prox cards?
It reads 125 kHz proximity credentials and outputs 26-bit Wiegand, which is the common format HID prox badges are encoded in. If your existing cards are 125 kHz prox on a 26-bit format, they will work without reissuing credentials.
3) Can this Prodatakey reader be wired into a non-Prodatakey access control panel?
The output is 26-bit Wiegand, the standard reader interface on nearly every commercial access panel, so it wires to any controller that accepts Wiegand input. It also supports 8-bit burst pin mode for keypad data. Note that the PDK.io cloud platform itself requires a subscription if you are running it on Prodatakey controllers.
4) What power supply does the Prodatakey mullion reader need?
12V DC, plus or minus 10 percent, drawing a maximum of 45 mA. That is low enough that several readers can run off one typical access control power supply or the reader output on the panel itself. It is a hardwired device, not PoE and not battery.
5) Can this reader be mounted outdoors in freezing weather or in a parking garage?
Yes. The zinc alloy rugged reader is rated IP68 for dust and water and IK10 for impact, and it operates from -4 to +122 degrees F (-20 to +50 C) at 0 to 95 percent humidity. That covers exterior entries, garages, and gates in most US climates, and the IK10 rating is the reason it is specified where vandalism is a concern.
6) How close does a badge have to be to the Prodatakey mullion reader to open the door?
Read range is 2 inches (5 cm) or less, so users present the card to the reader face rather than waving it from a distance. That short range is deliberate on a mullion reader: on a pair of glass doors with readers close together, it keeps one badge from triggering the neighboring door.
7) Does this Prodatakey mullion reader have a keypad for PIN entry?
This is the mullion prox reader, model RDRMRS, MPN AHDS30RVFD. Prodatakey's rugged line includes keypad versions that support two-factor entry, requiring both a prox credential and a PIN, and the reader electronics support 8-bit burst pin output for that. If you need PIN entry at the door, specify a keypad model rather than the plain mullion reader.
8) Mullion reader or single-gang reader, which one do I need?
Go by what you are mounting to. The mullion format is narrow, 1.88 inches across, and is made for the vertical metal mullion or door frame on aluminum storefront and glass front entries. If you are mounting to a standard single-gang box in drywall beside the opening, a wall-plate style reader covers the box properly and the mullion unit will not. Electrically they are the same job: 12V DC, 26-bit Wiegand back to the panel.
9) Do I need a PDK.io subscription to use this reader?
The reader itself is a Wiegand device and does not carry a subscription on its own. Prodatakey's cloud platform, PDK.io, does require a subscription, and that is what provides real-time updates, cloud backup, and 24-hour support when you run the system on Prodatakey controllers. If you are feeding a third-party panel over Wiegand, the cloud service is not involved.
