1) Can the Prodatakey rugged mullion keypad be mounted outdoors?
It is built for it. The housing is zinc alloy with an IP68 dust and water rating and IK10 impact rating, and it operates from -4F to 140F (-20C to 60C) at 0 to 95% humidity. That covers exterior gates, loading docks, and unconditioned parking structures, and the IK10 rating is the reason integrators put it where vandalism is a concern.
2) What credentials does the Prodatakey rugged keypad reader accept?
It reads 125 kHz proximity credentials and takes PIN entry on the touchscreen. You can run it as card only, PIN only, or require both for two-factor at a sensitive door. Read range is 2 inches or less, so users present the card to the reader rather than waving it from a distance. It does not read 13.56 MHz smart credentials, so if your site is already on a high frequency card, this is the wrong reader.
3) Will this Prodatakey keypad work with a non-Prodatakey access control panel?
The reader outputs 26 bit Wiegand, plus an 8-bit burst mode for PIN digits. Any controller with a standard Wiegand reader port and a 26 bit format will take the card read. Note the keypad sends PINs as 8-bit burst, one keystroke at a time, so your panel has to support 8-bit burst keypad input if you want the PIN side to work, not just the card side.
4) What power supply do I need for the Prodatakey ruggedized mullion reader?
12V DC, plus or minus 10 percent, drawing up to 45 mA. That is a small enough load that it typically runs off the reader power output on the access controller or the same 12V supply feeding the strike, though the lock current is what sizes the supply, not the reader. It is a hardwired device, so plan a cable run back to the panel.
5) Should I use a mullion keypad reader or a single-gang wall reader at my door?
Go mullion when the reader has to sit on the door frame itself, which is the usual case on aluminum storefront and glass front entries where there is no wall next to the opening. This one is 1.8 inches across for exactly that. Choose a single-gang or wall-plate reader when you have drywall beside the opening and want the reader at a comfortable standoff from the door swing. Function is the same; it is the mounting surface that decides.
6) Does the Prodatakey rugged keypad include the door lock or strike?
No. The keypad is the credential reader only. It sends the card read or PIN to an access controller, and the controller switches the electric strike, mag lock, or electrified trim. A complete opening needs the reader, a controller, the locking device, power, and a request-to-exit or exit device on the inside.
