1) Will the RCI 0163 electric strike work with a rim exit device mounted tight to the door frame on an aluminum storefront?
That's the situation the 0163 was built for. It's a surface-mounted rim strike shaped to fit where the exit device sits very close to the frame, which is the usual problem on aluminum storefront. The body measures 1-3/4 x 9 x 1/2 inches, and it works with Pullman style rim latches projecting 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch. It also gives up to 1/4 inch of horizontal adjustment, so a door that has settled or a frame that is slightly out can still be brought into engagement without re-drilling.
2) Is the RCI 0163 strike fail-safe or fail-secure, and what happens when the power drops?
Fail-secure. Pull power from the 0163 and it locks, so the opening stays secured during an outage or when the access control system is down. Egress still works normally because the rim exit device on the inside of the door retracts its own latch mechanically. If your code official or life safety plan requires the strike itself to release on power loss, this is the wrong unit and you need a fail-safe model instead.
3) Can I use the RCI 0163 on a fire rated door opening?
No. The 0163 is not a fire rated strike, and a fire rated opening needs a fire rated electric strike so the latch stays engaged under fire conditions. For that opening, look at the Dormakaba Dorma ES62F, a 3 hour fire rated surface mount rim exit strike. Keep the 0163 for non-rated storefront and interior openings.
4) Will the RCI 0163 strike catch my exit device latch, or is my latch throw too short?

9) My existing electric strike does not line up with the exit device latch anymore. Can the RCI 0163 take up that gap?
