1) Will the RCI 4119 electric strike work with my cylindrical lockset, or is it mortise only?
Both. The 4119 has an enlarged latch cavity that takes cylindrical locks, narrowline aluminum locks, and centerline mortise locks (including 3-piece anti-friction latches) as well as mortise exit devices. The one thing to check on the lock is latch projection: the strike is built for a 3/4 inch projection latch. If your lock throws a shorter or longer latch, it is the wrong strike for that opening.
2) What door thickness does the RCI 4119 strike cover?
1-3/8 inch through 2-3/8 inch, so it covers standard 1-3/4 inch commercial doors, older 1-3/8 inch interior doors, and thicker aluminum or custom leaves up to 2-3/8 inches without changing strikes.
3) How deep does the frame pocket need to be for a 4119 electric strike?
Plan on a 1-1/2 inch cut-out depth. That depth fits most aluminum and wood frame profiles, which is the usual constraint on retrofits into an existing aluminum jamb where there is limited room behind the strike.
4) Fail secure or fail safe: which one do I want on an office entry, and what does the 4119 do on power loss?
The 4119 is fail secure, meaning it stays locked when power drops and the keeper only releases while energized. That is the normal choice for perimeter and office entries where you do not want the door to unlock in an outage, and free egress comes from the lever or exit device on the inside. If code or the life safety plan requires the door to unlock on power failure, a fail secure strike is the wrong choice and you need a fail safe model instead.
5) Can I put an RCI 4119 on a fire rated door?
No. The 4119 is not fire rated, so it should not go on a labeled fire door opening. Fire rated openings need a strike specifically labeled for fire door use, which typically means a fail secure unit with a fire label on the part itself.
